The Spyware's Behavior

Adware EasyWWW includes a set of components that displays advertisements by hooking various settings in Internet Explorer.

Spyware EasyWWW can download and execute programs from the producer of this software.

The spyware files will be able to be detected as Adware under the file name(s) EasyWWW.

EasyWWW's spyware is generally silently installed when you visit certain Web sites. This is usually accomplished by exploiting vulnerabilities in your Internet Explorer.

File names: Easywww.exe; Easywww2.exe; Payload.exe

When the first component of EasyWWW's spyware is downloaded and executed, it contacts the EasyWWW Web site and requests instructions as to what to do next.

The Spyware's First Actions are to:

Download and execute a program specified by the Adware 'EasyWWW' publisher.

Changes the Internet Explorer search bar to a specific Web site.

Downloads and installs an additional spyware browser helper object.

Adds an entry (or entries) to the computer's Hosts file.

Additional Spyware Components can do any or all of the following:

Place a reference to themselves in the Windows registry \Run key so they are executed each time you start Windows.

Change the Internet Explorer Home page.

Change the default Internet Explorer Search bar and Search page.

Download and execute adware or spyware programs.

Add an entry (or entries) to the computer's Hosts file.

*Make sure you reset your Internet Explorer Home and Search pages.

*Make sure you also run a full system spyware scan and delete all the spyware files detected as Adware under the file name EasyWWW.

The Delete any spyware starting values that were added to the registry.

Resetting the Internet Explorer Home and Search pages

Start Internet Explorer.

Click the Tools menu > Internet Options.

On the Programs Tab, click "Reset Web Settings."

In the Reset Web Settings box, make sure that "Also reset my home page" is selected, and then click Yes.

Scanning for and Deleting the Spyware files

Run your free Spyware Scanner program and make sure that it is configured to scan all files.

Run a full system spyware scan.

If any spyware files are detected as being infected with Adware EasyWWW, write down the path and file names, and then click Delete.

Deleting the Spyware value from the Registry

Click Start, and then click Run. (The Run dialog box appears.)

Type regedit

Then click OK. (The Registry Editor opens.)

Navigate to the key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft
\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

In the right pane, delete any spyware value that refers to a file name that was detected as Adware 'EasyWWW'.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft
\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunService
