Itinerary

Day 1: Cairns to Cooktown

Stop At: Cape Tribulation Beach, Cape Tribulation, Queensland Australia
Be picked up by our experienced driver in an air-conditioned 4WD to travel north along the Captain Cook Highway; one of Australia’s most scenic coastal drives. After crossing the Daintree River by cable ferry, we make our way to renowned Cape Tribulation beach for a tasty morning tea.
Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Daintree National Park, Tropical Research Station, Cape Tribulation, Queensland 4873 Australia
After morning tea, journey north through the World Heritage Listed Daintree Rainforest on the 4WD only Bloomfield Track. Along the way, your guide will enlighten you with stories and history as you travel through some of the most incredible scenery in Australia. Stop for lunch and visit the famous Lion’s Den Hotel; one of North Queensland’s oldest pubs established in 1875. Continue north to historic Cooktown.

Stop At: Grassy Hill, Hope Street, Cooktown, Cook Shire, Queensland 4895 Australia
First stop in Cooktown is Grassy Hill Lookout for 360-degree panoramic views of Cooktown, the Endeavour River and the Coral Sea. Continue in to Cooktown centre and enjoy a driver-guided tour of the town, before heading to your accommodation for the evening.

Day 2: Cooktown to Cairns

Stop At: James Cook Museum, 50 Helen St, Cooktown, Cook Shire, Queensland 4895 Australia
Today we explore Cooktown, first stop is the Heritage listed Cooktown cemetery which bears testimony to the diverse nationalities who came to Cooktown and the Palmer goldfields in the late 19th century. Visit the James Cook Museum for a guided tour and see an original anchor and cannon from Cook’s HMB Endeavour amongst many of the interesting exhibits.

Stop At: Cooktown Botanical Gardens, Finch Bay Rd, Cooktown, Cook Shire, Queensland 4895 Australia
Next visit the Cooktown Botanic Gardens, enjoy a guided walk viewing many of the same plants collected by Joseph banks and Daniel Solander, as well as plants traditionally used by the local Aboriginal people. Relax and enjoy lunch at Nature’s Powerhouse – the garden’s Art Gallery, Visitor Information Centre and Café.

Stop At: Black Mountain National Park, Queensland Australia
Begin the journey back to Cairns travelling the Mulligan highway. Briefly stop at Black Mountain, Byerstown Range lookout and the Palmer River Roadhouse. The outback landscape is dotted with termite mounds and many different eucalypt species. Keep an eye out for livestock that graze along the roadside. We return you to your accommodation on the completion of the tour.
