Baku is so rich in attractions that one can easily spend three days walking around the city and might find it not enough to enjoy all beauties of this Caucasian city. It usually takes two more days to see the landmarks in the surroundings of the capital.

Itinerary

Day 1: Baku

Stop At: Upland Park, Baku Azerbaijan
Baku's Upland Park is the highest point in the Azerbaijani capital, opening a panoramic view of the city and its bay.

Stop At: Baku Old City, Neftchilar Ave, Baku 1000 Azerbaijan
Old City or Inner City (Azerbaijani: İçərişəhər) is the historical core of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The Old City is the most ancient part of Baku, which is surrounded by walls which were easily defended. In 2007, the Old City had a population of about 3000 people. In December 2000, the Old City of Baku, including the Palace of the Shirvanshahs and Maiden Tower, became the first location in Azerbaijan to be classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Stop At: Baku Boulevard, Neftchilar avenue, Baku Azerbaijan
Baku Boulevard, also known as the seaside national park, is the favorite promenade of many Baku residents and visitors. Its establishment goes back to more than 100 years, to a time when Baku's oil barons built their mansions along the Caspian shore, and the seafront was gradually built up.

Stop At: Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center, Heydar Aliyev Avenue, 1/1, Baku 1033 Azerbaijan
The iconic Heydar Aliyev Centre was designed by Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid and is famous for its distinctive flowing, curved style that eschews sharp angles. As a brilliant piece of post-modern architecture, the building’s shape is an eternal cycle, connecting the past with the present. The building houses a conference hall, gallery halls, museums and more and seeks to unite people of diverse backgrounds in a place of shared ideas. The building won the London Design Museum award in 2014.

Day 2: Baku - Ateshgah

Stop At: Ateshgah - Fire Temple, Сураханский район, Baku Azerbaijan
The Baku Ateshgah often called the "Fire Temple of Baku" is a castle-like religious temple in Surakhani district, a suburb in Baku, Azerbaijan. Based on Persian inscriptions, the temple was used as a Hindu, Sikh, and Zoroastrian place of worship.

Stop At: Yanar Dag, Binagadi-Balakhany Highway, Baku 0125 Azerbaijan
Yanar Dag (Azerbaijani: Yanar Dağ, meaning "burning mountain") is a natural gas fire which blazes continuously on a hillside on the Absheron Peninsula on the Caspian Sea near Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan (a country which itself is known as "the Land of Fire").
Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Mardakan Castle, Mardakan AZ1044 Azerbaijan
The quadrangular Mardakan castle was built in the middle of the 12th century by Akhsitan I, son of Manuchihr III. It was erected after a victory of Akhsitan I. The tower was used as a shelter and observation point of feudals.

Day 3: Baku - Gobustan & Mud Volcanoes

Stop At: Gobustan Rock Art, 60 km South of Baku, Baku Azerbaijan
Gobustan State Reserve located west of the settlement of Gobustan, about 40 miles (64 km) southwest of the centre of Baku was established in 1966 when the region was declared as a national historical landmark of Azerbaijan in an attempt to preserve the ancient carvings, mud volcanoes and gas-stones in the region. Gobustan State Reserve is very rich in archeological monuments, the reserve has more than 6,000 rock carvings, which depict primitive people, animals, battle-pieces, ritual dances, bullfights, boats with armed oarsmen, warriors with lances in their hands, camel caravans, pictures of sun and stars, on the average dating back to 5,000-20,000 years.

Stop At: Mud Volcanoes, Dasgil Hill, Qobustan 3700 Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan has the most mud volcanoes of any country, spread broadly across the country. 350 of the 800 volcanoes of the world are in the Azerbaijani Republic. Local people call them “yanardagh” (burning mountain), “pilpila” (terrace), “gaynacha” (boiling water) and “bozdag” (grey mountain) alongside its geographical name – mud volcanoes.

Stop At: Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, Mikayil Useynov, 28 The Seaside Boulevard, Baku 1001 Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum (Azerbaijani: Azərbaycan Milli Xalça Muzeyi) (formerly called the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum displays Azerbaijani carpets and rug items of various weaving techniques and materials from various periods. It has the largest collection of Azerbaijani carpets in the world

Stop At: National Art Museum of Azerbaijan, Niyazi St., 9/11, Baku Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan National Museum of Art (Azerbaijani: Azərbaycan Milli İncəsənət Muzeyi) is the biggest art museum of Azerbaijan. It was founded in 1936 in Baku and in 1943 was named after Rustam Mustafayev, a prominent Azerbaijani scenic designer and theater artist. The museum consists of two buildings standing next to each other. The museum's total collection includes over 15,000 artworks. There are over 3,000 items in 60 rooms on permanent display. About 12,000 items are kept in storage. The museum changes the exhibits periodically so that more of these artworks can be displayed temporarily. Currently, the museum is located on 2 buildings which were built in the 19th century.
