Itinerary

Day 1: Travel to Toro Toro and Descend into Umajalanta Cavern

Stop At: Torotoro, Torotoro, Potosi Department
Our three-day expedition to Toro Toro National Park starts in the “City of Eternal Spring” Cochabamba and takes you south into the department of Potosi where the protected area is located. We will be hosted by a community-based tourism initiative that is managed by local community members. The journey to Toro Toro is in itself spectacular and passes through the inter-Andean valley eco-region with its unique flora and fauna and farming communities. We’ll reach the town of Toro Toro in time for a typical lunch and after sharing a meal and checking in at our lodgings we set out on a two-hour hike in search of dinosaur footprints and headed for the beautiful El Vergel Canyon. There will be time for a swim at the bottom of the canyon before we head back up and return to our hotel for a well-deserved rest and delicious dinner.

Day 2: Go Bouldering and Hiking in Ciudad de Itas

Stop At: Torotoro, Torotoro, Potosi Department
On Day 2 we head to Ciudad Itas, a bizzare “city of stones” that we can hike through and over and under in a challenging trail that includes some of the best views of the region. The hike lasts about four hours and we’ll have lunch back at the hotel and you’ll have the afternoon free for epxloring on your own.

Day 3: Descend into Vergel Canyon and Plunge in the River

Stop At: Torotoro, Torotoro, Potosi Department
On Day 3 we head underground to go to the Umajalanta Caverns (helmets and lanterns included!) where we will crawl, climb and slide through an underground world complete with stalagmites, stalactites and a lagoon inhabited by blind fish. Once we resurface we’ll return to Cochabamba, arriving at about 19:00.
