COPPERSMITH HANDICRAFT (workshop and guided tour)

In this tour/activity we will learn more about Sarajevo's traditional crafts. one of them is of course the silversmithing. we will also meet with our local artist, a silversmith and with his help make a small and unique souvenir for you to take home. :)

Silversmith is an old name for a craftsman, who designs or modifies (modifies) jewelry and small ornaments of silver. This craft is, in fact, a kind of art since small ornaments are made where inventiveness, skill and precision are needed. Earlier, hand tools were used and the work was done mostly by hand. Contemporary technology for the processing of materials and decoration making has recently been used. The silversmiths also use various types of precious stones in their work. The most common products of these handicrafts are jewelery, such as rings, brooches, necklaces and bracelets.

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Pass By: Kazandziluk, Bascarsija Street, Sarajevo 71000 Bosnia and Herzegovina

Kazandžiluk takes its name from the kazandžijas, master metalworkers and coppersmiths who first started producing kettles for the army and then later began making other copper vessels and items for everyday use (ewers, pitchers, coffee pots, metal table tops, trays). At the height of Ottoman Sarajevo’s “Golden Age”, coppersmiths were producing around a hundred different kinds of items.

Stop At: Sarajevo City Hall, Obala Kulina bana, Sarajevo 71000, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Some believe that during the Ottoman period the lower section, which is at the beginning of Kovači St. and runs from Čekrekčijina Mosque to the plaza, was home to a bazaar for blacksmiths (kovači).

However, since there are no reliable written records of such activities, it is possible that the name comes from an old toponym used to refer to the blacksmiths and stonecutters who worked on stećci (medieval Bosnian tombstones) and the earliest Muslim gravestones, which were later known as taščije.
