The university is also the largest of Victoria's Universities with over 20,000 students. It is perhaps most famous for it's environmental work, which includes being home to the Canadian Center for Climate Modelling and Analysis and the Water and Climate Impacts Research Centre.

We pass by the Terry Fox statue. Terry Fox was an athletic young man whose right leg had to be amputated because of cancer. Convinced that it was his mission to call attention to the plight of other cancer sufferers, and defying then-conventional assumptions about people with missing legs, Terry announced that he would run across Canada - over 4,500 miles - in the Spring and Summer of 1980. He made it two-thirds of the way on his "Marathon of Hope," but the cancer spread, and he passed away before completing the journey.

We pass by Steve Fonyo Beach, the site of the completion of Fonyo's "Journey for Lives Marathon" on May 29, 1985, covering 4,924 miles and raising 14 million dollars for cancer research. Steve Fonyo was an amputee missing his left leg, who completed the journey Terry Fox was unable to finish.

We drive by Victoria City Hall built in 1890, one of the best surviving examples of Second Empire-style public architecture in western Canada. A notable feature is the 105 foot tall clock tower.

Stop At: Pioneer Square Old Burying Ground, Rockland Ave & Quadra St, Victoria, British Columbia V8V 3G8 Canada

We pass by Pioneer Square Old Burying Ground, the main burying ground for Fort Victoria and Victoria from 1855 to 1873. The site was later used as a filming location by an America soap opera in the 1970's.

We drive past the David Foster Foundation Theatre, part of the Oak Bay Beach Hotel. David Foster is a local boy, musician, record producer, composer, songwriter, and arranger. Foster has won 16 Grammy Awards, including three Grammy Awards for Producer of the Year, and has been nominated a total of 47 times. He has been nominated three times for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

We pass by the Netherlands Centennial Carillon, a 62-bell carillon dedicated by Queen Juliana of the Netherlands in thanks for Canada's role in the liberation of the Netherlands during World War II.

Stop At: Greater Victoria Public Library, 735 Broughton St, Victoria, British Columbia V8W 3H2 Canada

We drive by both the past and present locations of the Greater Victoria Public Library, that relocated to it's current location in 1991. In 1905, the Andrew Carnegie built library building, that was the previous location, opened. It was used as a movie set in the Mel Gibson movie, "Bird on a Wire."

We pass by Trafalgar Park, offering magnificent views of the Strait of Juan De Fuca, Olympic Mountains, and Trial Island with it's lighthouse.

We drive by the Congregation Emanu-El Synagogue, built in 1863 and still in use today. It is the oldest synagogue on the west coast of North America.

Stop At: The Canadian Scottish Regiment, 713 Bay Street, Victoria, British Columbia V8T 1R1 Canada

We pass by the Bay Street Armoury, home to the Canadian Scottish Regiment. They are the primary reserve infantry regiment of the Canadian Army based on Vancouver Island.The regiment's history starts in 1912, and it has become Canada's most decorated infantry regiment, receiving six Victoria Crosses for extreme bravery.
