Tianjin ‘s famed Ancient Culture Street (Gu wenhua Jie) is the epicenter for visitors to experience nearly all forms of Chinese folk customs. The entire street stretches over 580 meters (1,903 feet) and filled with small booths, shops, and restaurants modeled after the independent merchandisers of the Qing dynasty. The street itself is like a work of art, all the shop-fronts are constructed using blue bricks with sloping orange roofs, as well as, windows and doors decorated with colorful paintings, thereby, creating a striking contrast that looks especially stunning on a bright summer's day. The street is not only rich in ancient Qing architecture but also in handcrafts and unique artifacts, almost all the arts and crafts found on this street have been handmade by Chinese locals. Temple of the Queen of Heaven (Tianhou Palace)​

Tianhou Palace, a famous Taoist temple in Tianjin City, was built for the Goddess of the sea and is situated in the middle section of the Ancient Culture Street. The Palace was constructed in 1326 during the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). Subsequently, the palace was renovated many times. The palace faces east with the Haihe River running in front of it. The principal building of Tianhou Palace is the Main Hall constructed on a large and elevated pedestal, which is a typical wooden structure style of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

Tianjin Confucian Temple is the largest existing traditional architectural complex in the city. It is also one of the oldest buildings in Tianjin. The temple was built during the Ming Dynasty some 500 years ago. In this Confucian temple, you will find beautiful decorative archways, lovely goldfish ponds, and the Ancestral Dacheng Halls honoring Confucius and his teaching (a place for ancient Chinese students to pray for great success in their academic education).

Stop At: Drum Tower, Nankai District, Tianjin China

Tianjin Drum Tower was built during the Ming Dynasty. Although it is called the Drum Tower, it was initially a Bell Tower. This tower is a three-story building. The foundation layer is a square table built with bricks, wide at the top and narrow at the bottom. This tower has four arched gates, giving access to four different streets such as East Street (Boutique Street), North Street (Antique Street), South Street (Tianjin Flavor Street). It is an ideal place for shopping. There is an iron bell located on the second floor. The bell has a diameter of 1.4 meters (4.6 feet) and a height of 2.3 meters (7.5 feet). It weighs about 150 kg (330 pounds),

and is known as the "bell king." The tower is also home to various exhibitions and expositions.

Stop At: Ferris wheel, Eye of Tianjin, On Yongle Bridge of Sancha River, Hebei District, Tianjin 300010 China

Tianjin Eye also called as The Tientsin Eye, is a 120-meter (394 Feet) tall giant Ferris wheel built above the Yongle Bridge, over the Haihe River in Tianjin. Construction started in 2007, and the wheel opened to the public on 7 April 2008. Tianjin Eye is electrically powered and has 48 passenger capsules, each capsule is capable of carrying eight passengers, and takes 30 minutes to complete a full 360 degrees rotation. The Ferris wheel ride lasts about 30 minutes and can carry 768 passengers per hour.

Stop At: Dabei Buddhist Monastery (Dabeiyuan), Tianwei Lu, Hebei district, Tianjin China

Dabei Buddhist Monastery is the largest and oldest Buddhist monastery in Tianjin, covering 10,600 m² (about 114,000 feet). The name Dabei comes from the Dabei Arya Avalokiteshvara. This monastery is known for its Shìjiā Bǎo Hall and the subsequent large hall where a giant and golden multi-armed statue of Guanyin awaits, her eyes following you around the hall area. Also, the monastery provides vegetarian food from the famous Tianjin Dabei Buddhist Monastery Vegetarian Food Corporation. The vegetarian dishes served here includes deep freeze eight precious vegetarian steamed-buns, multivitamins-calcium noodles, soybean vegetarian and vegetarian dumplings, etc.

Nanshi Food Street covers 25,000 square meters (82,000 square feet). The street permeates a vibrant folk style and breathes an air of solemnity. A glass roof covers the entire structure. There are over 100 restaurants with their dishes of local flavors. Western and international food like Russian, Italian, German, and English flavors can be sampled in the Street.

Delicacies from all over the country are available here, for example, you can taste dishes with flavors of Sichuan, Shandong, Guangdong, Hunan, and Jiangsu province. The Nanshi food street has become well-known as the most prominent food emporium in China.

Stop At: Century Clock, Hebei, Tianjin, China

The Century Clock standing across the Jiefang (Liberation) Bridge is a landmark of the city. The Century Clock measures almost 40 meters in height and weighs 170 tons. The Century Clock represented the beginning of the Modern Chinese Industry in Tianjin. Between the outer and inner rings on the clock's face, you will see 12 bronze sculptural reliefs symbolizing 12 constellations. The S-style rocker signify the Yin and Yang, which is a concept of dualism in ancient Chinese philosophy.

The 96.7-meter-long (317 feet) 5.5-meters (18 feet) high and 19.5-meters (64 feet) wide Jiefang Bridge, was completed in October of 1927, over the Haihe River. The bridge deck can open automatically in the middle with the use of a gasoline engine generator. The Liberation bridge represents the victory of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) over the National Revolution Army during the Chinese civil war in the post-World War II era. The result of the Tianjin Campaign helped to determine the outcome of the Pingjin Campaign in January 1949.

Tianjin Radio and Television Tower measures 415.2 meters (1,362 Feet) and is known as the fourth highest tower in the world after the ones in Toronto, Moscow, and Shanghai. It was built in 1991 at the cost of $45 million. The high tower is the landmark architecture in Tianjin and one of the top scenic sites in Tianjin.

There are four high-speed elevators in the tower. The lifts run at a rate of 5 meters per second. It only takes 60 seconds to send visitors to the top of the tower. At the top of the tower, there are three publicly accessible levels including an observation pod allowing people to have a unique birds-eye view of Tianjin City, as well as a revolving restaurant serving various beverages and snacks.

The porcelain house is a contemporary museum of pottery and antiques housed inside an old French-style building with a history of over 100 years. It was initially the home of a finance minister in the late Qing dynasty and later converted into a bank in 1949. But after the bank changed its location, the beautiful building was left uninhabited for several years, until a porcelain collector Zhang Lianzhi bought it for 1 million yuan (around US150,000). He then spent the following four years turning it into a unique edifice, decorated with millions of ancient porcelain fragments, plates, and bowls together with tons of natural crystals dating from the Tang dynasty (AD 618-907) to the Qing (1644-1911) dynasties. The courtyard wall is covered with around 3,000 porcelain vases and is named “Ping’ an Qiang” (Wall of Wellness). Now the Porcelain House is the most eye-catching building in Tianjin, and one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions.

The center of Italian Style Street is the Marco Polo Plaza. The well-preserved fences and other ancient buildings make the town full of Italian aroma. The layout of the street is shaped like a chess board. Both sides of the street are decorated with lamp lights and green trees. Like a well-cut suit discovered hanging in the back of a wardrobe, Tianjin’s newly spruced up Italian Style District aims to dress up the city as a cosmopolitan and elegant destination. The Free Path is the only pedestrian street in the Italian Style Street, and most of the buildings are restaurants and bars with terraces which attracts many tourists. You can come here to dine at Italian or French restaurants and feel like you are in Europe. The 24-hour bars, cafés, cinemas, art museum, and restaurants make it attractive to tourists from all over the world.

The Haihe River Bund is a public leisure park along the river connecting to the pedestrian mall on Jiefang Road in the north of the city. It covers an area of approximately 130,000 meters and is 1 kilometer long, connecting the pedestrian mall on Jiefang Road in the north and facing the Haihe River in the south. In the middle of the pedestrian strip there is a water fountain that reaches an amazing height of 170 meters, the highest in China. This area also includes a beautifully maintained botanic garden, as well as, more water fountains, creating an incredible sight when lit up at night. The Haihe River Bund combines shopping, outdoor fun, natural scenic views together to provide a truly stimulating experience.

Tianjin Museum is the largest museum in Tianjin, China, exhibiting a range of cultural and historical relics significant to Tianjin. The unique architectural style of the museum, whose appearance resembles that of a swan spreading its wings is one of Tianjin’s iconic building. It was built to be the biggest modern spot for the collection, protection, and research of historical relics, as well as, a place for education.

The Museum of Science and Technology covers an area of 21,000 square meters. The building of the Museum began in 1992, and it has been open to the public since the New Year's Day, 1995. The Science and Technology Hall of the Museum is unique in architectural style with the main structure being shaped like a bridge. A spherical structure, 30 meters in diameter, resting on the bridge gives you the impression of the rising sun.

The Display Hall, located in the center of the museum, is the main part of the Tianjin Museum of Science and Technology. The upper and lower floors of the Display Hall are divided into 14 sections, devoted to different branches of science and special technologies. Altogether the Hall displays 318 exhibits or sets of exhibits.

St. Joseph Cathedral, also known as Old Xikai Catholic Church, lies at the southern end of Binjiang Avenue in Heping District. It is the largest Roman Catholic cathedral in Tianjin, even the largest one in northern China. It is also called the French Church because it is located in the original French Concession and was built by French missionaries in 1916. The structure has been remodeled and expanded many times to become the size that we see today. St. Joseph Cathedral with its grand architectural style and expressive religious art is one of Tianjin’s most cherished historical sites.

Five Great Avenues, aka Wu da dao in Chinese, lies in the south of downtown Tianjin. Five Great Avenues has the best preserved villa cluster in Tianjin or even the whole of China. There are 22 roads, with a total length of 17 kilometers and an area of 1.28 square kilometers. There are over 2,000 garden-style villas built in the 1920s and 30s by different countries. It is recognized globally as the Exposition of Neoteric Architectures. Wu da dao highlights Tianjin as the tangible textbook of modern Chinese history. To see firsthand how colonists from Europe and other parts of the world lived in Tianjin, take a horse-drawn cart, or visit the Five Great Avenues museum with thousands of artifacts on display.
