Bogotá 4 Days Culture History and Nature

You’ll be visiting going deep underground into the salt labyrinth of Ziapaquira. Exploring chambers, cabins and tunnels that have been carved out of this mountain to supply some of the worlds finest quality salt. This is where you will discover the famous Cathedral of Zipaquira, 220 yards below the surface of the earth.

You’ll uncover the myth of El Dorado and the source of countless expeditions and attempts to drain the legendary lake of Guatavita.

You’ll walk the streets of the oldest neighbourhood of Bogotá, and marvel at the huge stone buildings and walls dating back 400 years, and learn the true history of this famous location.

You'll enjoy either ascending to the great hight of mount Monserrate and looking down on Bogotá and its 8,000,000 inhabitants. You'll enjoy a tour of this holy place, taking in every advantage point before enjoying the ride down this massive mountain in your choice of the teleférico or funicular.

Itinerary

Day 1: Free Day - arrival day

Stop At: Bogota, Colombia
Arrive at anytime to be collected from the airport and taken to your accommodation. Depending on your arrival time we can provide you with another tour or with suggestions of places to see and where to go.

Day 2: Zipaquirá Salt Cathedral and Lake Guatavita

Stop At: Laguna de Guatavita, Km 15, Via Guatavita-Sesquile, Tierra Negra Colombia
Starts with a collection from your Bogotá accommodation at the slightly early time of 7am. You’ll then be driven to the wonderful location of the Guatavita Reserve. Once here you’ll explore the paths that take you to this magical place, which is actually where the legend of El Dorado was born. Here you will enjoy the story of the history of this famous area, where the local indigenous would place gold into the lake for sacred ceremonies.

Next you will enjoy the views of Guatavita town, filled with whitewashed buildings and tiled roofs. This town was actually moved in the 70’s to accommodate the construction of the huge Tomine Dam.
Duration: 5 hours

Stop At: Catedral de Sal, Parque De La Sal, Zipaquirá, Cundinamarca, Colombia
Next stop is the town of Zipaquira and the Salt Cathedral in the mountain overlooking this beautiful place. Here you will walk the streets and into this salt mine that was first used thousands of years earlier by the local Musicas Indians. You will wander into the caverns almost 600ft below ground, which have been carved from the salt in this mountain for centuries. You’ll love the serenity and peacefulness that comes with this amazing location, being underground with amazing crosses, paths, lights and a church which has over 3000 visitors every Sunday of the year.

To complete your journey you will collected and driven back to your Bogotá accommodation with an expected arrival of approximately 5pm.

Day 3: Monserrate and La Candelaria

Stop At: Mount Monserrate, Carrera 2 E No. 21-48 Paseo Bolívar, Bogota Colombia
Will start with a bit of a sleep-in after such a big first day; you will be collected at a respectful time of 9am and driven to the base of Monserrate. Once here you’ll ascend to the summit, almost 2000 ft (600 m) above Bogotá, by using the funicular with its breathtaking views of Bogotá as you climb. Once you have reached the top you will have time to explore the 17th century monastery, the artisan markets, and the wonderful views of Bogotá. After you have had your full of culture and magnificent scenery you will descend down to the waiting city below, but this time using the teleferico (aerial tramway) for yet another perspective.

Stop At: La Candelaria, Bogota, Colombia, #10- a 10-, Cra. 4 #71f Sur98, Bogotá, Colombia
Next you will make the short walk to La Candelaria and the next part of this all fascinating cultural experience. Once in this zone you will start exploring the many streets, and ancient buildings, the graffiti and murals, the plazas and churches, and discover the history, culture and amazing charm of the oldest neighbourhood of Bogotá.

Day 4: Bogotá Free Day to Explore More or Airport drop-off

Stop At: Bogota, Colombia
Is all yours and completely up to you. Your transport will be waiting to take you to the airport for the next part of your Colombian adventure, or if you have arranged for another night or more accommodation to explore more of the Cundinamarca region (highly recommended and can be organised with us after booking), your transport will be waiting for another day.
