Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival Addis Ababa

Stop At: Holy Trinity Cathedral, Aratkilo area Addis, Addis Ababa 123 Ethiopia
Holy Trinity, royal tombs and places associated with Haile Selassie and the royal family, tombs of patriarchs, patriots who defended Ethiopian liberty, resting place for the bodys who fought during the korean war.

Stop At: National Museum of Ethiopia, King George VI Street, Addis Ababa Ethiopia
The National Museum features archaeological and paleontological exhibits including the 3.2 million years old famous complete human fossil know as Lucy, and other ethnological collection.

Stop At: Ethnological Museum, Algeria St Piazza Haile, Addis Ababa Ethiopia
At the Addis Ababa University (housed in the former palace of Emperor Haile Selassie).

Day 2: Addis Ababa - Bahir Dar

Stop At: Debre Libanos Monastery, Debre Libanos Ethiopia
The 13th century church and monastery and Jemma gorge that is tributary to Blue Nile
Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Abay bridge, A3, Bahir Dar, Ethiopia
The Blue Nile Gorge is situated 225kms north of Addis Ababa. This majestic and massive gorge is the most captivating gorge in Africa. You feel completely hot when you drive down to the gorge. The area has a magnificent, captivating physical feature and natural beauty.

Day 3: Bahir Dar

Stop At: Blue Nile Falls, Amhara , Region Ethiopia
At Bahir Dar Morning; you leave for Tissisat falls (Blue Nile Falls), it followed by a 30 minute walk from the road to the falls. Here, the Blue Nile starts here its journey to the Mediterranean after making a roaring water falls.

A beautiful market to stop by to visit the basket, vegetable, black smith and grain market.

Stop At: Lake Tana, Ground floor from Blue Nile Hotel, Bahir Dar 1000 Ethiopia
Afternoon , you will have a boat trip on Lake Tana to view the magnificently preserved Island Monasteries of the 13th century ,the trip include the visit of ancient church and treasury of Ura Kidane Mehret at Zeghie Peninsula and Azua Mariam on the island.

Day 4: Bahir Dar to Gondar

Stop At: Fasil Ghebbi, Gonder Ethiopia
Early in the morning start for the 185 km drives (approx 3 hours) to Gondar, the capital of Ethiopia in the 17th and 18th Centuries. Gondar is still one of Ethiopia’s most impressive cities, with its walled Royal Palace Enclosure (listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage monument). This enclosure lies at Gondar’s center and contains several well preserved castles and other buildings. We take time this afternoon to tour these castles and churches, including the Royal Palace Enclosure, Emperor Fasilidas’ Bath.

Day 5: Gondar to Axum

Pass By: Simien Mountains National Park, Ethiopia
Driving in the Simien Mountains en route to the kingdom of Aksum . we will have the thrill of some spectacular ascents and descents as the road negotiates the terrain of the mighty massif cut by rivers and streams. The impressively built road between Debark and Adi Ar kai loops and twists and provides some breathtaking views of the 'Moon Mountains', the fantastically shaped formations of basalt left after the erosion of the softer materials that once surrounded them.

Pass By: Tekeze River, Sheraro to Bridge, Himora, Ethiopia
We descend to the plain of the River Tezeke and crossing this tributary of the Nile rise again towards the town of Shire (Inda Selassie) in Tigray province. We then continue east to Aksum. In the course of all this today we will break our journey at a number of interesting villages and markets along the way, arriving into Aksum in time to check in to our hotel.

Stop At: Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion, Axum Ethiopia
St. Mary’s Church the Sanctuary Chapel which is the repository of the Arc of the Covenant, the Coronation yard, church museum.

Stop At: Queen of Sheba Palace, Axum Ethiopia

Stop At: Tombs of Kings Kaleb and Gebre Meskal, Enno Littmann St, Axum Ethiopia
Tombs of Kings Kaleb and Gebre Meskel from 6th century and Bath of Queen Sheba.

Stop At: Northern Stelae Field, Near St Mary of Zion Church, Axum Ethiopia
Stelae field and associated museum.

Day 7: Axum to Mekelle

Stop At: Yeha Archaeological Site, Yeha Village Ethiopia
Drive to Mekele visiting the 8-5th Century Temple of Yeha. The temple is believed to be the oldest standing building in the country

Stop At: Monastery of Debre Damo, Sabean hotel Axum ethiopia, Adigrat Ethiopia
Proceed to the 6th century famous Monastery of Debre Damo established by Abune Aregawi one of the seven Saints came in Ethiopia in the 6th century in the reign of King Kaleb to spread Christianity in different parts of the country.( Allowed only for male visitor)

Stop At: Wukro Chirkos, Wikro,, Wikro, Ethiopia
The Rock Church in Cherkos Wukro, according to tradition, in the fourth Century was built when Christianity came to Ethiopia.

Stop At: Abreha and Atsbeha Church, About 18 km west of Wukro and 23Km from Megab, Mek'ele Ethiopia
15km west of the town of Wukro, the outstanding 4th centrury Abraha Atsbeha rock hewn church dedicated the famous twin Axum kings who introduced Christianity to Ethiopia in the the 4th century and whose bodies believed to rest here stands. Painstakingly decorated has 13 huge pillars supporting the ceiling and cruciform shape. The 17th century murals and paintings depicting Biblical scenes and Saints.Rich with valuable treasures, the most important being the prayer cross, which belonged to Frumentius -the first Bishop of Ethiopia whose ecclesiastical name was Abba Salama( Father of peace).

Stop At: Emperor Yohannes IV Palace, Zesilasea Square, Mek'ele Ethiopia
18th century palace of Emperor Yohannes who rained Ethiopia form 1872 to 1889 made his capital in Mekelle built this beautiful palace and is open for a visit. The Emperor’s throne, royal bed, ceremonial dress, rifles and many other valuable historical collections can be seen in the museum and the fantastic throne of Atse Yohannnes IV made by the Italian engineer Giacomo Nareri in 1874 is the eye catching centerpiece of the museum.

Day 8: Mekelle to Lalibella

Pass By: Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela, Lalibela 1260 Ethiopia
Drive to Lalibella 290 KM, making short photo stops on your way.
Full day cruise on the eastern edge of the Ethiopian highlands to Lalibela, a legendary, on a high plateau (2630 m) situated place, surrounded by rugged mountains, which is in the Ethiopian Christian tradition called the "new Jerusalem".

Day 9: Lalibela

Stop At: Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela, Lalibela 1260 Ethiopia
This morning we visit the most accessible north-western group of churches in Lalibela itself: the temple-like Bet Medhane Alem with barrel-vaulted nave and side aisles, a small church dedicated to the Virgin Mary and other chapels all reached through tunnels like Bet Maryam, Bet Denagel & Bet Meskel, Bet Micheal and we end with a visit to the cross-shaped Bet Ghiorgis in all its pleasing symmetry and simplicity.

Stop At: Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela, Lalibela 1260 Ethiopia
This afternoon we explore the south-eastern group of churches that have their own distinctive and memorable features. A visit to Bet Merkurios requires a trip through a dark tunnel, but Bet Amanuel and Bet Abba Libanos are more easily accessed.

Day 10: Lalibela

This morning we will drive to Yemerhane Kirstos church to explore the most beautiful for its architecture church which is 42 km from the city of Lalibella.

Visit the village, attend coffee ceremony at local house and day at Leisure.

Day 11: Lalibela to Dessie

Stop At: Lake Hayq, Dessie Ethiopia
The polico- religious monasteries of Haiq Estifanos are found north of Dessie. The famous church was so popular with religious scholars and great contributors to the restoration of the Solomonic dynasty in Lalibela in the 13th century. Only monks are living and serving in it. The monastery preserves wooden and stone relics of the days of its foundation.

Senbete on Sunday, to experience the culture of the Oromo, Amhara and Afar peoples (highlanders and low landers).

Pass By: Debre Birhan Selassie Church, Debre Birhan, Ethiopia
Drive back to Addis via Debre berhan and Ankober historical cities that were once so important in Medieval Ethiopia history and served as a sit of kings of Shoa and birth place of Menelik II who is the founder of Addis Ababa and credited for the present Ethiopia.
