Giverny Auvers sur Oise private tour

Enjoy a full day private tour with an art historian visiting 2 key landmarks related to 2 of the most influential artists of the 19th century;

Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh. One lived more than 40 years in Giverny and the other one lived the 3 last months and the most prolific of his career at Auvers sur OIse. The tour includes hotel pick up and skip the line tickets to Monet's house at Giverny and at the auberge where Van Gogh lived.

On this tour you will see the landscapes that inspired many artists during the 19th century.

After picking you up at the hotel, our first stop will be Auvers sur Oise which was the inspiration for artists such as van Gogh, Pissarro and Cezanne. It is also the final resting place of Vincent van Gogh. You will be able to see his grave.

After a lunch stop we will visit the house of renowned impressionist Claude Monet where the artist spent his final years and did extensive work both on the landscaping and the house itself. He produced some of his famous garden paintings based on these same gardens.

As all of our tours are completely private and personal, you’ll have flexibility to modify the stops on the day. Just talk to your guide to see what is possible. The itinerary below is an example of a standard itinerary for this Giverny & Auvers sur Oise tour.

1. You will be collected from your hotel in one of our comfortable vehicles at 9am. On our way to Auvers sur Oise our licensed guide will give you an introduction to the history of the Van Gogh's time here. The drive is approximately 1 hour.

2. You will arrive in the village of Auvers sur Oise where a young Vincent Van Gogh made his home for the last 70 days of his life. During this time he painted nearly 80 canvases based on the pretty village, its landscapes and its people. During the Van Gogh house tour you will visit the room where he once lived.

3.Next you will head over to the church of Auvers. Your guide will take you through the cemetery and you will visit the grave of Van Gogh and his brother who are laid to rest next to each other. You will have a chance to pay your respects to this famous artist.

4.You will take a break for lunch in the picturesque town of Giverny. Your guide will be able to recommend a suitable restaurant for you.

5.After lunch you will visit the former house and gardens of Claude Monet where he lived for 43 years until his death. The decoration and colors of the house were chosen by him and were definitely not in keeping with the trends at the time. You'll notice these colors from the pink facade and green shutters on the outside of the house to the yellow dining room and blue kitchen and sitting room inside.

6.There are two parts to Claude Monet's garden. In the flower garden (Clos Normand) we will see a mixture of rare and common flowers with varying colors and textures. Monet disliked the idea of having a constrained garden which is evident here and in contrast to his water garden.

7.The Water Garden was based on paintings of Japanese gardens that Monet was enamored with. He designed the garden himself and drew inspiration from the Japanese bridge and of course the water lilies that bloomed in the pond. You'll have a chance to explore and walk over his famous bridge.

8.Once the tour concluded your guide will take you back to your hotel or somewhere else in Paris.
