Museum of Iron History entry ticket

Why a museum of Iron History in Jarville-la-Malgrange?

It is on the estate of Montaigu, which belongs to Edouard Salin, that the museum opens its doors in 1966, in Jarville-la-Malgrange.

The town has a history of iron and steel. On the photographs of the museum's construction, we can still see the rise of the "crassier" of Jarville-la-Malgrange, on the site of the current bus and tram depot of the agglomeration.

Few traces of the iron mines, blast furnaces, forges and steelworks that existed in the Nancy basin since the 1870s remain today. However, the Lorraine steel industry has contributed to the construction of an emblematic monument: the beams of the Eiffel Tower have been laminated to Pompey, from minette lorraine.

Visit: Musee de l'histoire du fer, 1 Hemicycle du General de Gaulle, 54000 Jarville-la-Malgrange France

The museum was born from a museum-laboratory project wanted by Edouard Salin, Albert France-Lanord and Bertrand Gille. It was the product of the Research Center for the History of the Iron and Steel Industry, which included a museum, a documentation center and a restoration laboratory (which had already existed since 1950 at the Musée Lorrain). This project originated in an international conference, "Iron through the ages", organized in October 1955 with the support of the City of Nancy.
