Stop At: Prometheus Cave, Kumistavi Georgia

Prometheus cave, is located near the Georgian town of Tskhaltubo, 20 km away from Kutaisi in Imereti region in the West of the country. Everyone knows legendary Prometheus who under Greek mythology stole fire from Gods was chained to Mountain. Georgians have a famous myth like this too. The legend says that Amirani, like Prometheus, angered the gods and was punished. Days and nights eagle tormented him eating his liver; however, in contrast to the Greek giant, cruel gods chained Amirani not to the rock, but somewhere inside a huge cave. Presumably, it is in Prometheus cave, one of the most colorful place in Georgia. Here you can observe stalactites, stalagmites, underground river and lakes, nice 1.2km walk in mysterious and cool atmosphere and short boat trip if interested. Its unique features include a variety of halls and landscape diversity. Four distinct layers were formed during different stages of the Earth’s development and tourists are able to journey through the historic territory. All cave is spectacularly highlighted by one of the most amazing feature of the place – an underground light system filled with LED lights. So visitors are amazed by those breathtaking views.

Stop At: Sataplia Cave and Nature Reserve, Kutaisi Georgia

Cave Sataplia is located on the territory of the reserve Sataplia, Imeretia. Sataplia Cave is named after Sataplia Mountain, which gained its name from the local tradition of collecting honey from the bees that inhabit the mountain’s southern slope. Sataplia means ‘place of honey’. Sataplia cave has a length of 900 meters, only 300 meters are accessible for visitors. The cave is illuminated with colored lamps that make stalactites and stalagmites look mysterious and attractive. The center of the cave is a large stalagmite in the form of a heart. It is believed that if you touch the heart and make a wish, it will come true. You can also walk in the woods , have views to Kutaisi thanks to glass platform overlooking the city and You can also see millions of years old footprints of dinosaurs, take picture with the models of dinosaurs, visit the small museum. There is a restaurant and some attractions. In short, tourist infrastructure is developed.

Stop At: Bagrati Cathedral, Bagrati Street, Kutaisi 4600 Georgia

Bagrati Cathedral is named after Bagrat III - the first king of a united Georgia, started at the end of the 10th century and was completed in the early years of the 11th century. The Cathedral holds special importance in the history of Georgia as an architectural and cultural monument and since 1994, Bagrati Cathedral is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Bagrati was once richly decorated with murals and mosaics representing the masterpiece of medieval Georgian architecture. In 1692 the cathedral was captured and destroyed by the Ottomans. On the territory of Bagrati Cathedral, a large number of gold earrings, rings and other accessories had been found.

Stop At: Motsameta Monastery, Tbilisi, Kutaisi 0172 Georgia

Motsameta- It is a small and very beautiful monastery with round turrets crowned with peaked tent-shaped domes. The monastery is standing above the rough Rioni river. According to the legend the monastery was constructed on the place where Muslims executed David and Konstantin Mkheidze, Georgian princes, who refused to accept Islam. In a small monastery hall on an eminence there is a big rectangular ark with the hallows of the pious princes canonized by Georgian Church . Motsameta attracts crowds of tourists with an ancient superstition: if one crawls three times under the ark and makes a wish while touching the hallows, the princes David and Konstantin will grant it.
