Itinerary

Day 1: Tbilisi & Mtshketa

Stop At: Tsminda Sameba Cathedral, Elia Hill, Tbilisi Georgia
Built in year 2004, the Holy Trinity Tsminda Sameba Cathedral is also called the symbol of new Georgia. The beauty and sizes of cathedral are indeed breathtaking, and rises magnificently on the hill of the St. Ilya, on the left bank of the Kura River. Sameba is the highest church in Georgia. It is 101m high. For comparison, before Sameba, the Alaverdi Cathedral in Kakheti was considered the tallest, with about 50m in height. Sameba Cathedral was built with grandiose scope. Its golden dome is practically seen from any point in Tbilisi. The cathedral is part of the entire complex including residence of the Patriarch and a monastery, school of theology and academy, hotel and the complex consisting of nine chapels, five of which are located under the ground.

Stop At: The Bridge of Peace, Tbilisi Georgia
The Bridge of Peace is a Pedestrian glass and steel bridge, in a bow-shaped design. Bridge sits over the Kura River in downtown Tbilisi, capital of Georgia.

The bridge stretches 156 meters and has 1208 LED bulbs built-in, that are switched on daily 90 minutes before the sunset and features four different lighting programs that run on the canopy every hour.

The bridge was ordered by the City Hall of Tbilisi to create a contemporary design feature, which connects Old Tbilisi with the new district. It provides a view of Metekhi Church, Statue of the Tbilisi’s founder Vakhtang Gorgasali and Narikala Fortress on the onme side, Baratashvili Bridge and Presidental Office on the other.

Stop At: Abanotubani, Abano St, Tbilisi Georgia
Once Upon a time in the 5th century AD, when Mtskheta was the capital of Georgia, our king Vakhtang Gorgasali (wolf-head) was hunting, King’s falcon caught/injured a pheasant during the hunt, after which both birds fell into a nearby hot spring and they were boiled. This lead to a discovery of the hot springs and, subsequently, to founding of a new capital. The name Tbilisi is derived from word Tbili- warm (from sulferic hot springs).

Waking in the Abanotubani district tourist can discover the charm of this city. Georgians are proud to have all historical religious buildings in this small area of Abanotubani: Georgian, Armenian and Catholic churches, Mosque, Sinagogue and even Ateshga -Zoroastrian fire temple.

Stop At: Narikala Fortress, Tbilisi Georgia
Narikala Fortress is nowadays the leading sighting among the most visited places in Tbilisi by tourists. No one, I emphasize, no one leaves Tbilisi without walking around this amazing fortress, which is unbelievably stunning at night. Narikala Fortress draws your attention from all sides of Tbilisi, you can notice it from almost every part of Tbilisi. It overlooks the Mtkvari River, which makes Narikala even more incredible. Narikala consists of two walled sections between the sulphur baths and the Tbilisi Botanical Garden.

Stop At: Jvari Church, Mtskheta Georgia
The masterpiece of Early Christian Orthodox architecture Jvari Monastery is dated 585-604 cc AD. Located on the hill top near the town Mtskheta, it is listed in UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 1994. The name is translated as the Monastery of the Cross.

According to traditional accounts, in the early 4th century Saint Nino stayed here to pray and erected a wooden cross on Mtskheta’s highest hill. The church was built on the crest of a cliff at a confluence of the rivers Mtkvari and Aragvi. It is a representative of the tetra conch architectural type that was popular not only in Georgia but also in Byzantine world.

Day 2: Kakheti

Stop At: Sighnaghi, Sighnaghi, Kakheti Region
Signagi - the heart of Kiziqi which is the most picturesque corner of Kakheti, is lying on the South-Eastern slopes of Tsiv-Gombori range. The townlet is overlooking Alazani Valley from the height. Its elevation from the Valley is 400 m. The name of the town derives from Turkic word and means ‘shelter’, or, according to other historical sources, ‘invincible’.

Stop At: Bodbe Monastery of St. Nino, Signagi Georgia
According to the legend it is built on the burial place of Saint Nino. Georgian kings were paying great attention to the Bodbe Monastery. It has been repaired and restored many times. In XVII-XVIII centuries, there were scribes: Zakaria Bodbeli (XVII c.), Onofre Bodbeli (XVIII century), Ioane Jorjadze (XVIII century), David Bodbeli (XVIII), Ioane Makashvili (1743-1837) and others.

Stop At: Telavi History Museum, Erekle II Avenue 1, Telavi 2200 Georgia
House-museum of King Erekle II (Erekle's palace) - Founded in 1927 as a museum of local lore. It is Located in the Kakheti region, in the city of Telavi.

The architectural complex of "Batonis Tsikhe” is a castle which still remains as the only Royal Palace in Georgia. The complex is a remarkable monument of cultural heritage with its architectural-historical features.

Stop At: Alaverdi Monastery, Alaverdi Georgia
Alaverdi - Cathedral and Monastery is located in the Kakheti region of Akhmeta municipality, on Alazani valley, near the village of Alaverdi, 20 km from Telavi.

The temple is one of the largest church buildings in Georgia. Its height including dome is above 50 meters.

The complex includes buildings: Alaverdi St. George Cathedral, defensive wall, chapel, Peikar-Khan's palace, wine cellar and bath.

Alaverdi Monastery was founded by Joseph Alaverdeli, one of the Assyrian fathers in the middle of the VI century.

At the beginning of the XI century, Kvirike the King of Kakheti built a cathedral (which is known by the name of Alaverdi) at the site of the little church of St. George.

Day 3: Road to Kutaisi

Stop At: Uplistsiche Cave Town, Kvakhvreli 15 km Eastwards to Town Gori, Gori Georgia
Uplistsikhe (literally “Lord’s Fortress“) is an abandoned rock-hewn town, which once have played an important role in Georgian history. The place was founded in the late Bronze Age, around 1000 BC, and continued to be inhabited until 13th century AD. Between the 6th century BC and the 11st century AD, Uplistsikhe was one of the most important political and religious centers of pre-Christian Kartli – one of the predecessors of the Georgian state.

Stop At: Stalin Museum, 32 Stalin Avenue, Gori Georgia
If you are interested in the history, life of one of the most famous Georgians, one of the main authors of great purges and red terror, the leader of Soviet Union who made the country a superpower after WW2 win, you have an option to visit Stalin’s museum in his birthplace Gori. There you can learn some information about Stalin, his life, see his office, his personal items including his pipe, cigars, telephone, ect the house where he was born in, railway cabin and more.

Stop At: Prometheus Cave, Kumistavi Georgia
Prometheus Cave is one of Georgia’s natural wonders and one of the largest in the world and has many underground rivers. It was discovered in 1984. Its unique features include a variety of halls and landscape diversity. Four distinct layers were formed during different stages of the Earth’s development and tourists are able to journey through the historic territory by foot or in boats. Prometheus Cave is one of the most popular international tourist caves, and includes various types of stalactites, stalagmites, curtains, petrified waterfalls, cave pearls, underground rivers, and lakes. The cluster of six caves differs significantly from each other in scale and the unique shapes of petrified flowstones found within. Golden Fleece cave meets all needs of international tourism level
