Finding flowers above Aghios Nikolaos

No two Flowers of Crete day trips are the same. The experience is tailored to guests interests and varies depending on the season, the weather conditions and the opportunities we have to spy rare and beautiful flowers, birds and events. We will see ancient Minoan tracks, Medieval frescoes, enjoy traditional Cretan hospitality in a remote and beautiful location and learn more of the history, culture and folklore of the island.

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Elounda Beach, Epar.Od. Agiou Nikolaou - Vrouchas 45, Elounda, Crete 720 53 Greece

Guests will be picked up, either at their hotel, at Babel Bar in Elounda, or at a convenient point en route.

Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Panagias Keras Church, Agios Nikolaos, Crete 721 00 Greece

Guests have the chance to visit this ancient church to see the magnificent medieval frescoes. We will then take morning coffee at a delightful taverna set under ancient plane trees.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Kritsa Gorge, Kritsa, Crete Greece

As we climb into the mountains we will stop to look down on the gorge, discuss its history and look for the birds that nest on the cliffs. We will then travel on to various sites to find and photograph wild flowers and to walk on a Minoan pack route.

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Stop At: Katharo Plataeu, Katharo, Kritsa,, Agios Nikolaos, Crete Greece

Once we arrive on the plateau, we will have a traditional lunch in a small taverna owned by a friend of mine. Here we can see ancient fossils of dwarf hippopotamus, deer and dwarf mammoths that once inhabited the area. After lunch we will explore the plateau, stopping from time to time to photograph and search for endemic tadpoles and frogs in the snow melt river.

Stop At: Kritsa Gorge, Kritsa, Crete Greece

On our return journey, if time permits, we can stop for a short walk in Kritsa village, with its bustling atmosphere and interesting shops.
