Itinerary

Our workshop takes place on the Philopappos hill (home of the Muses), with direct view of the city of Athens, the Acropolis, the Ancient Agora and part of the Saronic gulf. After we meet, we will walk uphill through olive and pine trees until we take our position under the trees’ shade. We will learn who Homer was and how people lived their lives 2500 years ago. We will tell the stories of Odyssey and Iliad, and discuss the Homeric characters through specific scenes taken from the poems. We will go deeper to the ethos of each character explaining why the great philosopher Plato said that Homer has taught Greece. Our team game “Compose a rhapsody” will give you the opportunity to learn about the Homeric meter, practice it yourself by writing your own lyrics, and compose a small rhapsody with your teammates!

All participants will take a commemorative gift.

Philopappos hill is a quite place right in the middle of Athens, full of olive and pine trees, having the best view of the Acropolis rock and the Ancient agora, the perfect location for photos with the Parthenon Temple on the background! On the same hill you may also find the Pnyx (the place that hosted the Public assemblies), the National Observatory, the Doras Stratos Theater, the Philopappou Monument, the Church of St. Demetrius, the Socrates prison, ruins of the ancient wall of Athens, as well as the traces of a major ancient road linking Athens with the port of Piraeus, right through the ruins of the ancient municipality of Meliti. A great opportunity to make a SELF-discovering walk through history, BEFORE or AFTER our workshop.
