Mayan traditional textiles experience in San Antonio Aguas Calientes

The oral tradition tells that during a plague in colonial times, the Kaqchikel population took San Antonio de Padua as their patron, and together with the abundance of hot springs in the area they renamed their village as San Antonio Aguas Calientes. Nowadays, this is still a town that bases their economy in agriculture, it's full of culture, traditions and above all, unique and beautiful handmade textiles.

This unique experience is carried out together with an association of women artisans from San Antonio, they prepare a demonstration of backstrap loom and the brocade technique. A visit to a thread store and carpentry workshop, share a snack and create your own artisan worry doll, localy known "Quita penas". Culminating with a tour of the village and a soft drink.

The meeting point is the Hotel Los Arcos (7 Calle 2-11 Zona 2 San Antonio Aguas Calientes, Sacatepequez), where a representative of the association will be. You can take a chicken bus from Antigua Guatemala or arrive by car. There is parking available at the Hotel.
