The Basilica of Bom Jesus is located is a part of the Churches and convents of Goa and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The basilica holds the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier. 'Bom Jesus is the name used for the Ecce Homo in the countries of Portuguese colonization. The church is India's first minor basilica and is considered to be one of the best examples of baroque architecture in India.

Stop At: Catholic Church of St. Francis of Assisi, Off National Highway 4, Goa Velha, Goa 403110, India

The Church of St. Francis of Assisi was built in 1661 by the Portuguese in the Portuguese Viceroyalty of India. In 1964, the Church of St. Francis of Assisi in Goa was converted into a museum by the Archaeological Survey of India. In this church remains and paintings of Hindu temple sculptures from Goa were stored.

The word Sé is Portuguese for See. The Se Cathedral was built to commemorate the victory of the Portuguese under Afonso de Albuquerque over a Muslim army, leading to the capture of the city of Goa in 1510. Since the day of the victory happened to be on the feast of Saint Catherine, the cathedral was dedicated to her.

With its sloping tiled roofs, carved stone coats of arms and wooden verandahs, the stalwart secretariat looks typically colonial, it is Panjim’s oldest surviving building. It was originally The Summer Palace of Goa's 16th-century Muslim ruler, Adil Shah. Later, the Portuguese converted it into a temporary rest house for the territory's Governors and then a residence for the Viceroy.

The church was completed in 1661 and is part of the World Heritage Site, Churches and convents of Goa. The church is considered to have been modeled on the St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. The church is in the form of a Greek cross and has a large dome with Latin inscriptions from the Gospel of Matthew on its inside.
