As we see it today, the National Museum, New Delhi, has an exciting start. In May 1946, the Maurice Gwyer Committee prepared the blueprint for the establishment of the National Museum in Delhi.

The origin of this museum goes back to the era shortly after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi on the fateful afternoon of 30 January 1948, when the slow method of scouting, gathering and maintaining Gandhiji's private relics, manuscripts, books, publications and records, photographic and audio-visual material began in a museum about Gandhiji's life, philosophy and work.
