Blending Faith and Culture in West Bali

Inspired Village Adventures provide conscious travelers with an invaluable opportunity to venture far beyond the beaten paths of Bali, to discover the local rural village life, and to be inspired by the beauty and creativity of Balinese culture. These adventures also support and incentivize local communities to keep and maintain their ancestral lands and sustainable way of living.

We will learn about sustainable agriculture and rural Innovation by traveling to the homes of farmers, fishermen,and villagers in remote parts of West Bali to meet with farmers and learn how they care for their crops. Through this experience, we hope to be more connected with rural communities of Bali, the agrarian way of life in Bali, and our relationship between our physical and spiritual selves and Mother Nature.

Itinerary

Paroki Hati Kudus Church

Many of the residents of Ekasari Village are Balinese Catholics. The primary place of worship is the Paroki Hati Kudus Church. This beautiful church combines elements of both Balinese and Western-style art and architecture. As we enter the church, we will first be greeted by the images of the 12 apostles of Christ.

Goa Maria

Near the Parok Hati Kudus Church is the beautiful Cave of St. Mary, known by locals as Goa Maria. The entrance to the cave begins through a grand archway and down a set of steps into a cave where a statue of Mary is tucked away. Many locals go to the cave to pray.

Maria Goretti Orphanage

Maria Goretti Orphanage was founded almost 75 years ago. Currently, the orphanage houses 52 children. The orphanage is beautiful, clean, and well maintained. We will interact with the children in their daily activities and also converse with them over lunch.

Balinese Drum

Kendang mebarung is a large ancient drum, only 9 of which remain in all of Jembrana Regency, two of which actually can be found here. We will meet a group of musicians and enthusiasts who are interested participate in an introductory workshop on drumming.
