Sumba Ikat is one of the well-known ethnic textiles of Indonesia. The Sumba Ikat design and pattern are stunning. Sumba Ikat designs are worked on the warp. Natural colouring from the roots, bark and leaves are processed in such a way to make the hues last longer. Blue and black comes from Indigo which is fermented from the mixture of liquid of kitchen ash of specific firewood mixed with coral or limestone powder. Whilst red or brown is from "Kombu". Each clan or villages have their own Ikat designs.

• ARRIVAL WAINGAPU transfer to local restaurant for lunch. Afternoon visit Kanatang area to the northwest of Waingapu. Kanatang is known for the indigo coloured ikat. Spend the whole afternoon here to comprehend indigo Ikat of Kanatang. There is chance to visit the indigo mixing place just behind the village. The women with menstruation is prohibited to enter the indigo mixing compound. Afternoon drive back to Waingapu and check in at Padadita Hotel or similar dinner at the hotel. (Lunch and Dinner)
• EXPLORE VILLAGES for Sumba Ikat. Today drive eastward of Waingapu to visit three prominent Sumba Ikat villages. Maubara in Pau area, the village is known for its combination of ikat and Pahikung. Pahikung is a technic of producing pattern from the way the different coloured threads are woven. The next place to visit is Praiyawang also known as Rende. It is the village of one of the prominent Sumba Noble families. The last village to be visited today is Kaliuda, the village is known for its horse design Ikat. The drive distance today is about 230 km in total. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)
• Spend the time in Waingapu area. Your morning will be spent in Prailiu, a village within the town of Waingapu where most of people in the village involve actively in producing Ikat of Kambera design. There are several Ikat workshops in town. visit some of them to complete your comprehension on Sumba Ikat. Or visit Mauliru village at the outskirt of Waingapu for the Sumba Ikat weaving process.  (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
