Toraja in Two Days from Parepare Harbor

Toraja is accessible from Parepare harbour at the west coast of Sulawesi peninsula. The two days excursion inland gives you chance to experience being in Toraja - the sacred highland. Drive through the beautiful mountain road passing rice fields, villages and farm lands where various plants growing. From clove trees, coffee to avocado to many other tropical plants. Once you arrive in Toraja you are in the land of the deities.

Depart Parepare very early in the morning to drive inland to reach Toraja by mid day include photo and refreshments stops en route. Arrival Toraja and have an early lunch. Afternoon visit Ke'te Kesu - the typical Toraja village - there are row of Tongkonan, the typical Toraja traditional house facing Alang, the rice granaries. The village is also centre of Toraja wood carving. Behind the village there is burial place where ancient wooden coffins and effigies are found. 

Proceed then to Londa the the natural burial place where the deceased are placed in the caves and on the karst holes high up on the rock cliff. Then drop to Rantepao downtown for Toraja souvenir then check in at Misiliana Hotel for accommodation.

Depart early to visit Bori the place where the Simbuang or Toraja monoliths are located. It is a funeral place for the noble families. Bori simbuang is well-shaped basalt rock in comparison to row monoliths at the other places in Toraja. Drive then southward to reach Lemo, it is well-known for the burial places chiseled up into the basalt huge single rock. What is seen from distance are window-like entrances. There are ancestors effigies displayed high up in the rock cliff to guard and bless families on earth.

Return to Parepare after an early lunch in Toraja to arrive at least by 5 PM at Parepare harbour.
