Rising majestically from the sea, the magnificent Skellig Michael is a twin-pinnacle crag 11.6 kilometres west of the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry, Ireland. The island is named after the archangel Michael, while the word "Skellig" is derived from the Gaelic sceilig, meaning a splinter of stone.

Skellig Michael is topped by a sixth century monastic settlement, justifiably famous in its own right, but now known worldwide as the refuge of Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars movies. Skellig Michael is home to large variety of seabirds including thousands of Atlantic Puffins. The nearby Little Skellig island is home to 70,000 Gannets making it the second largest gannet colony in the world. Watch out for playful dolphins that love to ride the boat’s bow wave and a variety of other resident and visiting sea mammals.
