Pisa and Lucca Day Trip from Livorno

A professional driver will provide transportation on this self-guided, amazing round trip tour of Pisa and Lucca. Visit the famous city of Pisa with its incredible Piazza dei Miracoli. See the Baptistery, the famous Leaning Tower, and the majestic Cathedral. Explore charming Lucca's historic center. See San Paolino Street, Puccini’s birthplace (exterior only), the dazzling church of San Michele with its wedding-cake façade, the imposing Piazza Napoleone, and nearby Piazza del Giglio. Discover these beautiful cities and their treasures in comfort.

Pisa's Piazza dei Miracoli (Miracles Square) is the most important artistic and tourist center of the city. Admire the monuments at the center of religious life of the city for their beauty and originality. Visitors for centuries have marveled at the white stones and glistening grass.

The most important monument is the Leaning Tower - when thinking about Pisa, there is an immediate link to the famous leaning tower. The monument assumed importance over the centuries thanks to its pronounced slope that worried and (at the same time) caught the attention of numerous visitors. Other wonderful monuments that you can find around the square are the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Museum, and the Monumental Cemetery.

Your trip will continue to Lucca, famous for its Renaissance-era city walls that have remained intact. Extraordinarily, as the city grew and modernized, the walls that surrounded the old town were maintained. As the walls lost their military importance, the top of the walls became a pedestrian promenade, today one of Lucca's main attractions. The area around the walls is well taken care of, with green grass and trees everywhere along the walls. They have, in essence, become a park that surrounds the city and blocks out more modern life.

Here you can take a stroll while eating gelato, or simply take a break from sightseeing on one of the many shaded benches that line the main walkway. From here, you can enjoy beautiful views over the town - and if you're traveling with children, you'll also find a few playgrounds where they can spend some time playing.

Another must stop for visitors is the Cathedral of St. Martin with its precious relic of the Volto Santo di Lucca, or Sacred Countenance. Traditional legend says the wood crucifix with the image of Christ was carved by Nicodemus, a disciple of Christ, and the sacred cross was miraculously conveyed to Lucca in 782 AD. Other top attractions include the Piazza of San Michele with its beautiful Church of San Michele in Foro, the Basilica of San Frediano, as well as the Clock Tower and Guinigi Tower, to name just a few.
