Sightseeing around Luang Prabang-Pak Ou Cave-Koungsii waterfall

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival to Luang Prabang

Stop At: Luang Prabang Airport, Laos
Upon arrival in Luang Prabang, you will be transferred to your hotel. In 1995 UNESCO declared the entire town of Luang Prabang a World Heritage Site. Nestled in the mountains at the confluence of the Mekong and Khan Rivers, this former royal capital is one of the most delightful towns in all of Asia. Small enough to explore on foot, the town reveals its charm and history at every turn, with gilded temples on nearly every corner and saffron robed monks strolling the quiet streets. The local markets offer produce, as well as silver and textiles;  mong tribeswomen come here to shop.

Today, begin to explore this charming town, starting with a visit to Wat Xieng Thong, arguably the most stunning in the country, with its brilliant mosaics. Continue to the Palace Museum, which houses an eclectic collection, including statues, mosaic covered walls, French mirrors, and a piece of moon rock given to "the people of Laos" by President Nixon. Late afternoon, head to the top of Mt Phousi, with its panoramic views of the city and the surrounding hills. The mountain is dotted with small shrines and monasteries. This is a perfect spot for sunset, as the golden spires of wats are beautifully illuminated.
