Scenic Snowshoe Hike in Trakai From Vilnius

Take a scenic winter walk through the woods and idyllic villages to reach the medieval Trakai castle on the island. Enjoy snow on the back country trails, walk the frozen lake and warm up yourself with the hot tea and traditional Karaim pie. After hotel pick up and meeting your guide, you will head towards Trakai - a small town with about 5000 residents. Once a significant and powerful town, nowadays Trakai is enjoying tranquillity. The town is located next to Vilnius  which is 15-miles (about 25-km) surrounded by several beautiful lakes, woods and hilly landscapes. The main attraction is the Island castle finished in the early 15th Century by Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytautas.

The snowshoe hike starts in Varnikai forest and you can explore a true winter wonderland while walking on the natural trails. Pass idyllic village of Varnikai before you will reach the lakes. Walk on ice to the castle (walking on ice - subject of change if the ice is not thick enough) where you will learn some medieval history.
