The National Monument was built to recognise and honour those who gave up their lives in the cause for peace and freedom, particularly during the nation's struggle against the threat of communism. Within the National Monument grounds is one of the world's largest free-standing bronze sculptures. It was sculpted in 1966 by Felix de Weldon, who was also the creator of the famous Iwo Jima monument in Washington DC.

The Merdeka square is located exactly opposite the sultan Abdul Samad building and right beside the royal Selangor club. This is the historical place where the union flag was lowered and the Malayan flag was raised for the very first time at the struck of midnight of 31st august 1957. From then on, Merdeka square has been the venue for the annual Merdeka parade.

Masjid Negara is one of the most distinguished landmarks in the city. It has a unique star-shaped dome and a 73m high minaret. The National Mosque is situated fringing the KL Lake Gardens. Visitors are advised to dress appropriately when visiting the mosque. Women will be required to wear headscarves. Visitors who are interested in Islamic arts can visit the Islamic Arts Centre situated overlooking the mosque.

Jamek Mosque, officially sultan abdul samad jamek mosque, is one of the oldest mosques in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is located at the confluence of the Klang and Gombak River and may be accessed via Jalan tun Perak. The mosque was designed by Arthur benison hubback, and built in 1909. Masjid Jamek served as Kuala Lumpur's main mosque. The mosque has a Moorish architecture.

A great place to find crafts and ornaments, the Central Market is one of the city’s prominent heritage buildings. It is a fine example of the 1930s Art Deco style with a stepped entrance design, unifying elements at the windows and doors as well as wrought iron panels. Just outside, Kasturi Walk beckons visitors with an exciting outdoor shopping experience. This covered walkway (formerly known as Lorong Kasturi or Kasturi Lane) offers a variety of handicrafts, souvenir items and street food.

Pass By: Sin Sze Si Ya Temple, Jalan Cheng Lock Chinatown, Kuala Lumpur 50000 Malaysia

Built by Kapitan Cina Yap Ah Loy, this is the oldest Taoist temple in the city with a history dating back to 1864. The temple features an ornate interior and elaborate roof ridges. Sin Sze Si Ya Temple pays tribute to the deities of Sin Sze Ya and Si Sze Ya. The oracles of the former were said to have guided Yap Ah Loy during the Selangor Civil War. Sin Sze Si Ya Temple occupies a rather unusual position and angle. This location is believed to have been determined by ‘feng shui’ or Chinese geomancy.

Petaling Street or Chinatown is a lively stretch of shops, restaurants and hawker stalls. The exchange 106 is a skyscraper under construction within the Tun Razak exchange area, a new financial district currently being developed in Kuala Lumpur. The 106-floor building is topped with a 65-meter, 12-storey high illuminated crown making it 492 m tall. With its completion, the exchange 106 skyscraper has officially dethroned the PETRONAS twin towers, at 452m, as the tallest in Malaysia.
