Hiking Le Morne Brabant in Mauritius - a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Hiking Le Morne Brabant is about taking the same route as the runaway slaves who were on the quest for freedom. Le Morne Brabant is situated at the extreme southwestern tip of Mauritius. The hike is not physically demanding although part of the trail is exposed to the sun. The hike also includes a few rock-scrambling areas which can be tackled by both beginner and expert hikers. During the hike, you may also spot Trochetia Boutoniana commonly known as “Boucle d’Oreille”, the endemic national flower of Mauritius.

Le Morne Brabant was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in July 2008 to memorialize the runaway slaves who preferred to commit suicide by jumping off the cliff rather than being captured and enslaved again.

Participants attempting this hike have to be physically fit and not afraid of heights.
