Known as “The Dark Blue Pearl” Lake Khovsgol is the Mongolia’s largest and second-most voluminous freshwater lake in Asia and 1% of all the fresh water in the world.

The lake is habitat for nine different types of fish, including the Siberian grayling, Arctic cisco, freshwater cod and Siberian catfish. As well as the area is home to argali sheep, ibex, bear, sable, moose and a few near-sighted wolverines. It also has more than 200 species of bird, including the Baikal teal, bar-headed goose, black stork and Altai snowcock

Khuvsgul is home to the southernmost indigenous reindeer herding people in the world, the Tsaatan who originated from Tuva in Siberia. The Tsaatan’s unique lifestyle, and the taiga environment in which they live, represent one of the most distinct cultural and ecological pockets of Mongolia. Tsaatan family are highly nomadic, reindeer herding people who have moved throughout Mongolian-Siberian border region for millennia.

Itinerary

Day 1: Ulaanbaatar - Bulgan

Pass By: Bulgan Mosque, Olgiy Mongolia
First day of our travel, on the way to the next destination we will enjoy beautiful nature, take photo, see wild animals and meet nomadic family.

Day 2: Bulgan - Jankhai

Stop At: KHUVSGUL WATERWAY, Hatgal, Mongolia
fter breakfast we drive to Khuvsgul lake. The khuvsgul lake is the cleanest lake in central Asia. The fish such as Coregonus autumnailis, lota, Brachuysmystax lenok, the water’s of the lake. Khuvsgul lake area is a motherland to unique tsaatan tribes. We stay in tourist camp. /Mongolian ger/

Day 3: Khatgal

Pass By: KHUVSGUL WATERWAY, Hatgal, Mongolia
After relaxing morning breakfast, we will meet our local horse guide. You will be briefed by the horse guide about the rules for horse riding and sightseeing opportunities in the area. We will make a horseback riding trip alongside the shore lake and the surrounding with forest mountains to have a better look of the beautiful Blue Pearl Lake Khuvsgul. Overnight will stay with a same nomadic yak herder family in Ger

Day 4: Jankhai

Pass By: KHUVSGUL WATERWAY, Hatgal, Mongolia
After breakfast time, you will visit a reindeer herders’ family. They are Tuvan people who moved to the Mongolia from Tuvan Republic around 1920s to the northern most part of Mongolia. Dukha (another name) are one of the last groups of nomadic reindeer herders (about 40 families left). Some reindeer people moved to the lake area for selling hand made souviner to tourists and brought their reindeers.

Day 5: Jankhai - Erdenet

After breakfast we will head to Erdenet. In Erdenet, you can visit the main supply of Mongolian economy - core mining from SOVIET union.
