Rainbow Mountain is located to the southern region of Cusco in the Ausangate snow-capped mountain range. Also known to the locals as Winicunca, this mountain is famed for its natural, multi-colored layers and outstanding views of Ausangate and its surrounding landscapes.

Begin your trek with an early pick-up from your accommodation in Cusco.

From Cusco, we will drive for approximately 3 hrs until the check-point at the base of Winicunca (Rainbow Mountain). Here you will obtain your entrance ticket (included) and will begin your hike to the mountain pass.

The hike from the base to the Rainbow Mountain pass will be approximately 3 hrs. You will gradually increase the altitude, making the trek more challenging. The terrain will be a mixture of rocky and sandy terrain.

Once at the top (pass), you will be standing at 5,200 m.a.s.l. Here you will have enough time to relax, catch your breath and most importantly enjoy the scenery. You will be witness of the mountain’s famed coloured multi layers and the outstanding views of the Ausangate snow-capped mountain and its surrounding landscapes.

After enjoying the views and altitude, you will begin to descend back to the base of Winicunca. The descend will be approximately 2 hrs (much faster) but will entail some sandy and slippery sections. Once at the bottom (check-in point), you will take the car back to a nearby community for lunch (included).

After a well deserved lunch, we will take the car back to Cusco for approximately 3 hrs and drop you off at your accommodation in Cusco. Approximate arrival time in Cusco is 19:00 hrs.
