Around 100,000 people died from exhaustion, hunger and various diseases, and more than 300,000 were displaced and exterminated at Treblinka.

In order to stop the mass deportations to death, they were revolted in 1943. The unequal struggle between the rebels with few weapons against the armored German troops lasted nearly a month.

The result was that the ghetto was almost completely burned by the Nazis and only a few Jews survived. One of them was Władysław Szpilman, the hero of the movie "The Pianist" by Roman Polanski.
