The Cork and Wine Tour around the region of Evora

Lonely Planet wrote about the Alentejo: "Go to be bewitched. Portugal’s largest region, covering a third of the country, truly captivates. Think dry, golden plains, rolling hillsides and lime-green vines. A rugged coastline, traditional whitewashed villages, marble towns and majestic medieval cities. Plus a proud if melancholic people, who valiantly cling to their local crafts."

Don't miss out on this private day tour of our most charming region in the country!

This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Magnificat Tours, Av. Republica 6 - 1ESQ, Lisbon 1050-191 Portugal

you will be picked up from your hotel in Lisbon and transferred to the Upper Alentejo region. It's 1h30 drive but you'll immediately see the changes in the landscape.

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Stop At: Azaruja, Azaruja, Evora District, Alentejo

We are going to start our day out by visiting the Cork Factory. Still based on the traditional techniques of collecting the tree’s bark, our specialist will explain everything to you from the planting of the tree all to way to making wine stoppers.

Afterwards, wonder the souvenir shop – all you can imagine can be executed using cork! Buckle up for an amazing discovery and shop until you drop all those wonderful souvenirs you can fly back home to your friends and family.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Centro Historico de Evora, Evora 7000 Portugal

After this introduction to the industry of the region, we will be moving to Évora. For 2 hours, visit the UNESCO classified city – Lonely Planet stated: “Évora’s narrow, winding lanes lead to striking architectural works: an elaborate medieval cathedral and cloisters; the cinematic columns of the Templo Romano (near the intriguing Roman baths); and a picturesque town square, once the site of some rather gruesome episodes courtesy of the Inquisition. Aside from its historic and aesthetic virtues, Évora is also a lively university town, and its many attractive restaurants serve up hearty Alentejan cuisine. Outside of town, Neolithic monuments and rustic wineries make for fine day trips”.

We will start by visiting the Chapel of Bones at Saint Francis’ convent; afterwards, a walk towards the main Square, heading for the Cathedral and Roman Temple. Upon visiting, we’ll walk back to the car.

Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Alentejo, Alentejo

But if Évora is “metropolitan” the Alentejo is all about the countryside. Driving away from Évora, we’ll take to a family-run winery. Established in this property for centuries, former Portuguese high nobility – we’ll have a sense of the peacefulness the Alentejo is all about and you’ll become an expert on wine! Tour the vineyards (if they have vailability) with the estate’s specialists, feel the crisp pure air, be careful not to trip on the historical findings dug up during the plantation of the vines and finish your tour sampling the outstanding wine produced. And yes, you’ll be able to pick up some bottles to take home – they have bubble wrapping available!
