Belém is a neighborhood located 5 km from the historical center and located at the western end of the Portuguese capital. It is from this district that the caravels of the navigator Vasco da Gama went out to discover the sea route to India. 1st Triumphal Arch of Augusta Street; was built to commemorate the reconstruction of the city after the earthquake of 1755 and leads to Rua Augusta, a beautiful pedestrian street.

2nd Trade Square; Famous square with impressive dimensions of the Baixa neighborhood, it is decorated with the grand triumphal arch of Rua Augusta and occupied by ministries, many bars and restaurant overlooking the river, the Tagus.

3rd The National Palace of Belém; Official residence of the President of the Republic since 1910, the palace was built in the 18th century. It is also possible to see the changing of the guard, the third Sunday of each month at 11:00.

4th Pastelaria Pasteís de Belém; Typical pastry shop founded in 1837 offering a small cake with cream, the famous cream cake.

5th Jeronimos Monastery; a Manueline style monument built in the 16th century for the return of India from Vasco da Gama. Inside the Church of Santa Maria de Belém, there is the tomb of Vasco da Gama, Luís de CamÔes.

6Âș Monuments of the combatants; monument to the glory of the overseas combatants, from the time of the independence of Angola, Mozambique and other Portuguese colonies.

7th Tower of Belém; caravel in the shape of a fortress, dating from 1514-1519 and located on the banks of the Tagus River.

8th Monument of the Discoveries; imposing monument built on the banks of the Tagus. adorned with statues depicting people who played an important role in the discoveries, such as Henry the Navigator, Vasco da Gama. and many other Portuguese explorers.

9th The rose of the winds; located in front of the Monument des DĂ©couverte, represents a map of the world in the center a pink compass indicating the most important discoveries.
