Wind Lagoon and Waterfalls Tour (Sunday and Wednesday FULL DAY)

The Lagoa do Vento is a river basin formed by the water which fall from the top of the cliff, coming from the Ribeira do Lajeado and moving towards the waterfall (or cascade) of Risco.

This tour begins in Porto Moniz at 09:00.

We go to Rabaçal and we start Vereda da Lagoa do Vento, in a two-hour walk and we arrived at Wind Lagoon and Waterfalls. The existence of several water streams, derived from small branches of the main creeks of the area, demands the walker to be the extremely careful during its crossing.

However, as it is a transitional area between the heath and the Laurel Forest, classified as Natural World Heritage by UNESCO since December 1999.

When we finish the walk we stop to have lunch in Rabaçal.

In the afternoon, we go down the off road to Estrela da Calhea and Prazeres village, following to Ponta de Pargo Light House.

We later visit the amazing viewpoint called the Garganta Funda Viewpoint.

Then we go offroad to Capela da Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte - Cabo

Pass By: Porto Moniz Natural Swimming Pools, Rua do Lugar, Porto Moniz, Madeira 9270-156 Portugal

The natural pools of Porto Moniz are the ex-libris of the municipality, which is a major tourist attraction. This holiday complex consists of pools formed from volcanic rocks with very singular shapes, where the sea comes in naturally always providing fresh and clear waters.

In Porto Moniz, we can visit the Living Science Centre and Madeira Aquarium.

This viewpoint provides a beautiful view over the village of Porto Moniz and of its natural swimming pools, as well as the Mole Islet.

Stop At: Pico Ruivo do Paul da Serra, Er 209, Madeira 6160-206 Portugal

Paúl da Serra at 1,300 - 1,500 metres above sea level is a tourist attraction located on the central west part of the island, the flattest place in all of Madeira with stunning views over the green mountains and valleys. On a clear day it’s possible to observe the south and the north sea!

Located in Pico da Urze, in Paul da Serra, this viewpoint has a beautiful panoramic view of the largest valley on the island, covered with the vegetation of the Laurissilva forest.

From the Lagoa do Vento, you may follow the opposite direction until the point of departure or, alternatively, you may access the regional road (ER105) through the PR 6.2 Levada do Alecrim levada walk.

The Piarro viewpoint is located in Lombo do Doutor, at the top of the hillside overlooking the beach of Calheta and the marina, from which there is an almost aerial perspective. It is even possible to observe the Casa das Mudas Arts Center to the West, which is at the same height.

This parish has about 1,145 inhabitants and its main economic activities are fishing, agriculture and livestock.
Located in the extreme southwest of the island, the name is linked to the fact that when the explorers were unravelling the coast, on the boat Severus of Afonso, they fished in this area a fish of fabulous size similar to a ‘pargo’ (snapper). For this reason they called this tip Ponta do Pargo.

The Ponta do Pargo Lighthouse viewpoint, located in Ponta Vigia, on the island’s westernmost cape, rises to an elevation of 312 m, offering stunning views of the immense ocean and the rugged landscape, extending from the Ponta do Pargo lighthouse to Achadas da Cruz.

Stop At: Vereda da Garganta Funda, Caminho do Pedregal Ribeira da Vaca, Ponta do Pargo, Calheta, Madeira 9385-269 Portugal

The Garganta Funda (deep throat) waterfall deserves a moment of contemplation as does the Atlantic Ocean that completes the scene. To the left you can see the lighthouse and the rugged coastline of the Madeiran southwest.

Stop At: Miradouro do Pico Vermelho, Caminho Lombada Velha, Ponta do Pargo, Calheta, Madeira 9385-288 Portugal

This peak is located in Lombada Velha (Ponta do Pargo). The name of this peak is related to the color of the soil. To reach the peak you will have to walk a dirt road. When reach the peak you will be 420m high and you will see a small fajã in the background. Opportunity to view the ocean and in the distance the Ponta do Pargo Lighthouse and Pico das Favas.
