Knysna Cycle Sea and Lagoon

Knysna is the gem of the Garden Route and this tour brings you to its treasures: the Lagoon, the Waterfront, Leisure Island, the Heads, and a nature reserve.  All at a gentle pace to make the most of the sights!

We meet on Thesen Islands, situated in a marina that is spread over 90ha and consists of 19 man-made islands linked by 21 arched bridges and surrounded by 25ha of tidal waterways. We ride along the banks of the Lagoon and stop to admire its varied bird life.  This sparkling body of water is where five fresh water rivers, flowing from the Outeniqua Mountains, meets a surge of sea water from the Indian Ocean. Marking this meeting place are two large headlands known as the Knysna Heads – a pair of towering sandstone cliffs.  With a bit of effort, we cycle up to the Heads where we can look down on the narrow stretch of water that has been the nemesis of many ships in the past. The views are spectacular are you can see the whole of Knysna and beyond.

We ride back to town via the lovely Leisure Isle where you feel lost in time.  We visit the Steenbok Nature Reserve with its Indigenous trees and flora. (https://www.leisureisleknysna.co.za/steenbok/index.html) and enjoy a leisurely lunch. We return through the Waterfront with its many art galleries.
