Montserrat Day Trip from Costa Brava Including Train Ride and Montserrat Monastery

Explore majestic Montserrat and the Montserrat Monastery on this day trip from Costa Brava. Take a cogwheel train ride up Montserrat, a unique multi-peaked mountain in the outskirts of Barcelona, and visit the Montserrat Monastery, an important pilgrimage site in Catalonia. Inside, see the famous 12th-century carving Our Lady of Montserrat, also known as La Moreneta (the Dark One), and listen to the children's choir. Upgrade to include a visit of the Museum of Montserrat, where you can learn about Montserrat's role as a spiritual and cultural center and admire art from Picasso, Dalí, Monet, and more.

Board a comfortable coach at your chosen Costa Brava pickup location and enjoy views of the picturesque villages dotting Barcelona’s countryside on the drive to Montserrat. Along the way, your guide will tell you interesting facts about the region and why the craggy mountain and its beautiful monastery have been one of Spain's most important pilgrimage sites since the 12th century.

When you arrive, board a cogwheel train at the base of this beautiful multi-peaked mountain and take in scenic views as you ride up the mountain and listen to your guide’s informative commentary.

At the end of your train journey, you’ll find the Benedictine Montserrat Monastery (also known as the Abbey of Montserrat). As you tour the abbey at your own pace, listen to the beautiful children's choir and see the 12th-century polychrome wooden carving of Our Lady of Montserrat, commonly known as La Moreneta (the Dark One) due to the dark color of the sculpture.

Have lunch at a local restaurant (own expense) and marvel at the landscape from the balcony before enjoying another photo opportunity of Montserrat on your train ride back down the mountain. When you arrive at the base, you’ll be taken back to Costa Brava.
