Within a mere area of 65, 610 kilometres lie 8 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, 1, 330 kilometres of coastline - much of it pristine beach - 15 national parks showcasing an abundance of wildlife, nearly 500, 000 acres of lush tea estates, 250 acres of botanical gardens, 350 waterfalls, 25, 000 water bodies, to a culture that extends back to over 2, 500 years. What's special about this tour is that we try to cover most of the places mentioned above within 10 days in order to give our clients a well rounded and an authentic local experience in the little time they visit Sri Lanka.

Itinerary

Day 1: Negombo

Stop At: Muthurajawela Marsh, Negombo Sri Lanka
Muthurajawela Wetlands is listed as one of 12 priority wetlands in Sri Lanka. It is also considered as Sri Lanka's largest saline coastal peat bog. This marsh is primarily for sightseeing and boating tours, and the area also supports local agriculture and forestry. You will be able to visit Dutch Canal and Negombo Lagoon during your boat ride.
There's a variety of 192 species of flora and 209 species of fauna, including Slender Loris, Toque Macaque as well as another 102 species of birds including White-throated Kingfisher, Lesser Pied Kingfisher, Blue-tailed bee eater and Grey Heron.

Stop At: Negombo Fish Market, Negombo Sri Lanka
The most fascinating thing about the Negombo Fish Market is that it is located right next to the beach. You can witness the fishermen catching fresh fish and selling them at the fish market right away.

Day 2: Wilpattu - Anuradhapura

Stop At: Wilpattu National Park, Putlam - Anuradhapura Road, Anuradhapura 50000 Sri Lanka
Wilpattu National Park is Sri Lanka's Largest National Park. It's famous for the "willu" (ponds) existing in the park. These "willus" collect rainwater and provide water for the animals even in the dry season. At the park you will spot the great Sri Lankan leopard, sloth bear, spotted deer, barking deer, wild buffalo and a variety of bird species.

Stop At: Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, Anuradhapura Sri Lanka
Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi is the southern branch from the historical Sri Maha Bodhi at Buddha Gaya in India under which Lord Buddha attained Enlightenment. It is also the oldest living tree in Sri Lanka.

Stop At: Isurumuniya Temple, At Royal Pleasure Gardens, Anuradhapura 50000 Sri Lanka
Isurumuniya temple is famous for the 6th century Gupta painting of the of the lovers, Saliya and Asokamala, the elephant pond and royal family cravings.

Stop At: Ruwanwelisaya, Abhayawewa Rd, Anuradhapura 50000 Sri Lanka
Built by King Dutugemunu in 140 B.C, the Ruwanweli Stupa is considered sacred to many Buddhists all over the world. It is also one of the world's tallest ancient monuments. The stupa contains the largest collection of Buddha's relics anywhere.

Day 3: Habarana - Sigiriya

Stop At: Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress, Sigiriya 21120 Sri Lanka
Sigiriya rock fortress is the palace of King Kashyapa who reigned from 477 A.D. - 495 A.D, It is most famous for its colourful frescoes on the walls. Sigiriya today is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site. It is one of the best preserved examples of ancient urban planning. It is also the most visited historic site in Sri Lanka.

Stop At: Minneriya National Park, Maradankadawala-Habarana-Thirukkondaiadimadu Highway, 50150 Sri Lanka
Minneriya National Park's faunal species include 24 species of mammals, 160 species of birds, 9 species of amphibians, 25 species of reptiles, 26 species of fish, and 75 species of butterflies. It is considered one of the 70 Important Bird Areas (IBAs) of Sri Lanka. It is most famous for the large amount of elephant gatherings (150-200) around reservoirs in the dry season. Tourists have even sighted as high as 700 elephants in one gathering.

Day 4: Sigiriya - Polonnaruwa

Stop At: Pidurangala Rock, Pidurangala,Sigiriya, Sigiriya 21120 Sri Lanka
Pidurangala rock is the destination for hikes to the top of the rock and is popular for panoramic views of sunsets and sunrises. Sigiriya Rock can be perfectly spotted from Pidurangala as it is situated nearby.

Stop At: Sigiriya Craft Village, Kimbissa, Sigiriya Sri Lanka
The Sigiriya Craft Village Tour consists of a Village walk, meeting locals, demonstration of how things are built, local cookery demonstration, local lunch, Canoeing boat in the river nearby and a Bullock cart or a Tuk Tuk Ride.

Stop At: Polonnaruwa Sri Lanka
This tour is optional and the price is not included in the rate. However, if you do get the chance to visit Polonnaruwa, you will be able to visit the ancient city ruins such as the the Royal Palace - ancient Parliament, Watadageya (monastery), Kumara Pokuna (Pond) Galvihara (rock temple) and Lankathilaka Image house.

Day 5: Kandy

Stop At: Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Sri Dalada Veediya, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy. It is located in the royal palace of the last king of Sri Lanka, Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe. The temple also houses the toothe relic of Lord Buddha.

Day 6: Ella

Stop At: Pedro Tea Factory, Nuwara Eliya Sri Lanka
At the tea factory you will learn about the origin of Ceylon tea, watch how tea is made in our tea plantation and the factory and taste the varieties of Ceylon tea.

Stop At: Nine Arch Bridge, Ella 90090 Sri Lanka
The Nine Arch Bridge also called the Bridge in the Sky, is one of the best examples of colonial-era railway construction in the country. The construction of the bridge is generally attributed to a local Ceylonese builder, P. K. Appuhami, in consultation with British engineers. You will go on a small hike near the bridge.

Ella Rock is popular for hikes and offers dramatic views from the mountain's peak, which is also a notable place to watch the sunrise.

You can enjoy some of the best views without needing to hike for hours at Little Adam’s Peak It is also notable for an unforgettable sunset.

Day 7: Yala

Pass By: Rawana Falls, Wellawaya-Ella-Kumbalwela Hwy, Ella 90090 Sri Lanka
Ravana Falls is a popular sightseeing attraction in Sri Lanka. It is considered as one of the widest waterfalls in Sri Lanka.

Stop At: Yala National Park Sri Lanka

Yala National Park is the second largest national park in Sri Lanka and is well known for having one of the highest leopard population densities in the world. Yala is one of the 70 Important Bird Areas (IBAs) in Sri Lanka. Of 215 bird species of the park, seven are endemic to Sri Lanka. Yala is also home to 44 mammals including the leopard, sloth bear, elephant, wild water buffalo.

Day 8: Udawalawe

Stop At: Elephant Transit Home (ETH), 5km west of the Uda Walawe National Park entrance, Udawalawe National Park Sri Lanka
The Elephant Transit Home is a facility within Udawalawe National Park in Sri Lanka that was established by the Sri Lankan Department of Wildlife Conservation. Its primary objective is to rehabilitate orphaned elephant calves for ultimate release back into the wild.

It is a popular tourist destination and the third most visited park in the country. An elephant sighting is guaranteed at this national park. You can also spot wild buffaloes, golden jackals, fishing cat, deer species and many more.

Day 9: Sinharaja - Mirissa

Stop At: Visit Sinharaja rainforest, Sinharaja Samangala Entance,Viharahena,Deniyaya Deniyaya Guest House,Ihalagama,Deniyaya, Deniyaya 81500 Sri Lanka
Sinharaja Forest Reserve has been designated a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is the country's last viable area of primary tropical rainforest. More than 60% of the trees are endemic and many of them are considered rare and the most common larger mammal is the endemic purple-faced langur. You will go on a 2 hour hike in the forest.

Galle Fort is situated in the southwest coast of Sri Lanka. It was built in 1588 by the Portuguese and later fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century. You will go on a tour of the city, visit the lighthouse, church and the dutch hospital.

Mirissa is situated in the south coast of Sri Lanka. Mirissa's beach and nightlife make it a popular tourist destination. You can engage in activities such as whale watching, dolphins watching, diving, snorkeling, surfing and many more water based activities. The cost of the activities are not included in the rates.

Stop At: Galbokka Sea Turtle Hatchery, Galbokka, Kosgoda Sri Lanka
Kosgoda is famous for its sea turtle conservation project operated by the Wild Life Protection Society of Sri Lanka. The centre functions mainly as a hatchery and makes huge efforts to increase the rate of hatching, and survival of baby turtles in their very initial stages. They also work on sick or injured adults; treating them and releasing them back into the ocean.

Stop At: Madu River, Nilwala River Safari, Bridge View, Custom Road, Balapitiya , Sri Lanka, Balapitiya 80550 Sri Lanka
This activity is optional and the rate is not included in the final price. The Madu River is very rich in biodivesity. It passes through the wet zone of Sri Lanka opening up into the large Madu Lagoon on its way to the Indian Ocean.The tour includes a boat ride and fish therapy.
