Day 1: Negombo - Nuwara Eliya

Stop At: Gregory Lake, Nuwara Eliya Sri Lanka
Bordered by mountains, Gregory Park snakes around the gorgeous Lake Gregory. The lake is used for watersports and landing on seaplanes. Keen travellers can jetski through the icy waters, enjoy a scenic boat ride or simply sit on the park bench admiring the stunning view before you. This reservoir was constructed under the governance of Sir William Gregory, a British governor.

Nuwara Eliya, also nicknamed Little England by the British during their occupation of the island, is a popular town in Sri Lanka’s hill country. It was known that when the British discovered the town, everything about it reminded them of England, as such they decided to name it Little England. With colonial styled, old English bungalows, the town still holds remnants of its past occupiers. Mountains of tea and hills of vegetable patches provide a variety of different landscapes for the traveller to admire. Visitors to Nuwara Eliya have a plethora of things to do here, from strolling through a botanical garden to exploring secret waterfalls in the area. Because of its mountainous terrain, the weather in Nuwara Eliya is quite different to most parts of the country. Expect cold winds during the day or night, mist, rainfall and generally chilly weather.

Stop At: Hakgala Botanic Gardens, Badulla Road, Nuwara Eliya 22200 Sri Lanka
Hakgala Botanical Garden is the second largest and is part of the only 3 botanical gardens on the island. Set approximately 5,400 feet above sea level, the garden was first established in 1861. According to the legendary Ramayana, it was said that King Ravana offered the garden to the abducted Princess Sita for her pleasure garden.

Stop At: Lover's Leap Falls, Hawa Eliya, Nuwara Eliya 22200 Sri Lanka
Towering 30 m in height, Lovers Leap waterfall is guarded by the tragic tale of a prince who was rescued by a damsel, after he got lost in the jungle. As fate would have it, the pair fell in love and were soon inseparable. However, the damsel was deemed unfit to be queen and was banished from marrying the prince. Determined to be eternally together, both of them plunged to their deaths to the bottom of the waterfall.

Stop At: Holy Trinity Church, Church Rd, Nuwara Eliya 22200 Sri Lanka
Holy Trinity Church, an Anglican church in Nuwara Eliya was built in 1845 on the top of a hillock, a short while away from the main town. Built by the British, the church still stands today, with many of its ancient relics still preserved within its holy walls.

Stop At: Victoria Park of Nuwara Eliya, A5, Nuwara Eliya 22200 Sri Lanka
Manicured sprawling lawns with towering trees, colorful flowers and lush flora, Victoria Park is a bustling park for the locals and visitors of Nuwara Eliya. Enjoy a stroll through the verdant garden that’s around 25 acres. The park was so named, in order to honour Queen Victoria.

Stop At: Victoria Museum, Nuwara Eliya-Uda Pussellawa Rd, Nuwara Eliya 22200, Sri Lanka
Take a walk back in time as you stroll through the quiet hallways of the Victoria museum. Located near Victoria Park, spend your day studying the history of tea and the land.

Stop At: Post Office Nuwara Eliya, Queen Elizabeth Drive, Nuwara Eliya 22200 Sri Lanka
A walk around Nuwara Eliya is the best way to experience the colonial charm of the city. Visit the red-bricked post office that resembles one from Old England, or admire the beautiful bungalows from the colonial era.

Day 2: Ramboda waterfall - Kandy - Dambulla - Minneriya national park

Stop At: Ramboda Waterfall, Pussellawa Sri Lanka
Ramboda waterfall is an amazing gift of nature. You will enjoy beautiful waterfall and amazing natural atmosphere on your way to Kandy from Nuwara Eliya.

Stop At: Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Sri Dalada Veediya, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, also known as Sri Dalada Maligawa is a sacred place of worship for Buddhists as it is believed to hold the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha. The city is believed to have been declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, mostly due to the significance of the temple. The temple was built within the complex of the royal palace, as it was believed that whoever holds the sacred tooth relic has to hold the governance of the country.

Stop At: Royal Palace of Kandy, Sri Dalada Veediya Sri Dalada Maligawa, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
Situated right next to the sacred temple of the tooth, the Royal Palace was the official residence of the last king of Kandy. It is believed that the only reason the temple and palace is located within the same complex is because whoever had the right to govern the country should hold hold the relic for safe keeping.

Stop At: Kandy Lake, Centre of Kandy City, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
Kandy Lake ushers in cool winds from the surrounding mountains to the busy streets. This man- made lake is built right opposite the temple complex. It was said that the king built this lake with a secret tunnel that passes through the palace. You can walk around the lake or enjoy a scenic boat ride from one end to the other.

Stop At: National Museum Kandy, National Museum, Kandy, Central Province, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
The National Museum of Kandy is located right next to the Sri Dalada Maligawa and forms part of the Royal Palace complex. The museum holds a collection of more than 1500 ornaments, ancient weapons, jewelry, tools, and much more, some of which stem from the colonial and pre-colonial days of Sri Lanka.

Stop At: Embekke Devalaya, Embekka Village Three Kilometers from the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, Handessa 20480 Sri Lanka
Embekke Devalaya is most known for the stunning woodcarvings, pillars and various other structures located within the premises. The temple was built in the year 1370 and was believed to have been built by the Queen and a drummer from the village. Admire the intricate wood carvings in the main halls and the temple as you explore the wondrous aspects of this temple.

Stop At: World Buddhist Museum, Hemamali Mawatha, Kandy, Sri Lanka
The International Buddhist Museum is the world’s first international Buddhist Museum. Located next to the National Museum of Kandy and the Sri Dalada Maligawa. The museum was built based on the contributions made by China, Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Depal and Pakistan.

Stop At: Dambulla Royal Cave Temple, Kandy - Jaffna Highway, Dambulla 21100 Sri Lanka
Dambulla Cave Temple is also quite commonly referred to as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, owing to the large, golden statue of Lord Buddha. Towering 160 m in height, ascend the stone steps until you reach the summit, where approximately 153 statues of Buddha are held inside the caves. You’ll also find statues of gods, goddesses and local kings. The cave temple has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Stop At: Minneriya National Park, Maradankadawala-Habarana-Thirukkondaiadimadu Highway, 50150 Sri Lanka
The Minneriya National Park has recently gained popularity after being featured on NatGeo for the largest congregation of wild elephants; dubbed, The Gathering. Visit between the months of July to October; where the season is dry, which draws more than 300 elephants to travel to the nearby Minneriya Tank in search of water. Besides elephants, the park is also home to crocodiles, purple-faced langur, painted stork and a plethora of colorful birds, both endemic and migratory. Embark on an exciting safari to watch Sri Lanka’s gentle giants in their natural habitat.

Day 3: Sigiriya - Trincomalee

Stop At: Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress, Sigiriya 21120 Sri Lanka
Sigiriya is one of the most popular, historic towns in Sri Lanka. Sigiriya is famed for its dramatic Sigiriya Rock Fortress built by a parricidal king who dreamed of building his palace in the sky and his kingdom around it. The immaculately designed, advanced water gardens, the beautiful frescoes of deities adorning the rock face and the stunning panoramic view from the peak are some of the main attractions at Sigiriya Rock.

Stop At: Trincomalee Beach, Trincomalee Sri Lanka
Spend rest of day resting relaxing and enjoying pristine beaches of Trincomalee.

One of the main marine national parks in Sri Lanka, Pigeon Island has been protected since 2003, owing to the number of flourishing coral reefs found here. Snorkel through the tropical waters and you’ll find sea turtles, reef sharks, and a rainbow of fish !

Day 4: Trincomalee city tour & Departure (Drive back to Colombo international airport)

Stop At: Thirukkoneswaram Kovil, Trincomalee, Sri Lanka
Situated on the edge of a high, rocky cliff, the temple is surrounded by the endless sea on all three sides. The temple, along with its religious artefacts were destroyed in 1622 during a battle. However, as the years went on, much of it has been restored, and inside the temple, you’ll find shrines and gold and bronze statues of deities.

Stop At: Fort Frederick, Trincomalee Town, Trincomalee 31000 Sri Lanka
Built by the Portuguese during their invasion, Fort Frederick is also referred to as the Trincomalee Fort. It was later occupied and fortified by the Dutch, French and finally the British. Stroll through the expansive gardens within the fort as you learn about the historic battles that took place here.

Stop At: Trincomalee Harbour, Trincomalee 31000 Sri Lanka
The Trincomalee Barbour is considered to be the third largest natural harbour in the world. The seaport has been a strategically important location through Sri Lanka’s history, where many battles were fought to control it. Trincomalee is most famous for 3 bays, Dutch bay, Back bay and the inner harbour.
