Klong Bang Luang (aka Klong Bangkok Yai) used to be a residential area for the nobility during the Thonburi era and so was originally called Klong Bang Kha Luang (canal of the nobility) This name was shortened to Klong Bang Luang over time. Nowadays, this district is ranked among Bangkok’s top cultural tourist destinations. The canal, which is used as a commuter route, also serves the local community and there are a number of canal-side Baan Silapin –(artists’ houses) at the heart of this charming neighborhood. Old houses, shops and temples can be found throughout the area, reminding visitors of the good old days. Modern business premises have been carefully made to blend in with surrounding architecture.
