Stop At: Monkey Beach, Ko Phi Phi Don Thailand

Monkey Beach is located on the southwestern side of Tonsai Bay, about 700m from the jetty. It is a simply stunning 150m-long strip of white powdery sand fringed by emerald water. The backside of the beach is a rather steep limestone cliff, covered with lush vegetation that offers monkeys a comfortable habitat, which is where it gets its name from. Monkey Beach is often confused with Monkey Bay, a similar spot located on the other side of Phi Phi Don Island, at the entrance of Loh Dalum.

Monkey Beach is not only famous for its furry inhabitants. Its other point of interest is that it is a top-notch snorkelling spot. The shallow waters next to it host colourful and vivid underwater habitats, which really gives you the feeling of swimming in an aquarium. Most of the people visiting Monkey Beach brought the bad habit of feeding the monkeys, so they now expect to get something to eat when they see visitors coming. Beware of these wild animals’ behaviour and do not go too close to them. Biting and scratching are common and painful issues and you certainly do not want to have to visit Phi Phi Hospital to get a rabies vaccine during your holiday!

Duration: 20 minutes

Pass By: Ko Phi Phi Lee, Ko Phi Phi Lee, Krabi Province

Maya Bay is a stunningly beautiful bay that's sheltered by 100-metre high cliffs on three sides. Inside the bay there are several beaches, most are small and some only exist at low tide. The main one is around 200 metres long with silky soft white sand, underwater colourful coral and exotic fish in exceptionally clear water; the whole bay is one big reef. Maya Bay has become the main tourist attraction of Phi Phi since The Beach was filmed here in 1999. It was always very popular before the film but now people around the world who haven't even heard of Phi Phi have certainly heard of Maya Bay. The best time to visit Maya Bay is between November and April during the high season when seas are calm and access to the bay is easy. Rough seas from May to October may hinder access but rarely deny entry.

Please note that if you enter the bay on your own there is a National Park entry fee of 400 baht. This cost is included in the price of a tour.

Stop At: Bamboo Island, Ao Nang, Krabi Town 81000 Thailand

Bamboo Island, known as Koh Pai in Thai, is the most north-easterly island of Phi Phi Archipelago in the southern Thai province of Krabi. Lying approximately five kilometres off the northern tip of Koh Phi Phi Don, Bamboo Island is a stunning tropical hotspot that offers the perfect getaway from the crowds as, despite the fact a few tours from Phuket make a stop here after lunch, the island is most of the time never too crowded. Measuring roughly 600m wide by 700m long, the island is almost shaped like a heart and is entirely surrounded by a strip of white sand. Its central part is covered with lush vegetation including Casuarinas trees and the Bamboo trees that gave its name to the island. On the north-eastern side of the island, under the shade of the trees, a small bar serves drinks and snacks. The perfect spot for a day trip, Bamboo Island hosts great snorkelling opportunities. Between Phi Phi Don and Bamboo islands stands a notable coral reef known as Hin Klang which provides its masked and finned visitors with the feeling of swimming in an aquarium. Closer to the beach, the island is almost entirely surrounded by a reef that spreads up to 500m from the shore.

Please note that if you enter the bay on your own there is a National Park entry fee of 400 baht. This cost is included in the price of a tour.

Stop At: Ko Phi Phi Don, Ko Phi Phi Don, Krabi Province

Discover Tonsai Bay nightlife. It’s legendary, it’s noisy and it’s a lot of fun, Phi Phi nightlife has acquired a worldwide image of being hedonistic, bucket-fuelled and late. All of the above applies so be prepared for some pretty late nights and mornings and for waking up, wondering why there’s sand in your hair and just how you found your way back to your room/bungalow last night. The village in Tonsai Bay hosts a lively scene of bars of all types that aim at entertaining punters until late. It’s not as frantic as on Loh Dalum beach, which really is the climax of late-night parties, yet there’s a bundle of fun to have here. From the iconic Reggae Bar to the cool Banana Rooftop Bar, and many more, you won’t be in bed early in Tonsai Bay.

Stop At: Loh Samah Bay, Ko Phi Phi Lee Thailand

Loh Sama (Sama Bay in Thai) is one of the most famous sites of Koh Phi Phi Leh which, we have to admit, hosts a fair deal of outstanding attractions. Located on the eastern side of the southern tip of the island, it features a small islet in the centre of the bay and a tiny beach at the backside of a small canyon on its northern part. Loh Sama is reputed for its snorkelling and diving opportunities. The famous Maya Bay is separated from it by a limestone cliff, which is pierced by a small hole allowing passage at low tide. A wooden staircase and terrace has been built on the Maya Bay side, offering visitors a great vista over Loh Sama and the islet. Snorkellers can enjoy the shallow crystal-clear waters of the channel formed between Koh Phi Phi Leh and the islet while scuba divers can appreciate wall diving down to 20 metres around the islet itself. Loh Sama is also famous for being a great night-diving spot, with a narrow canyon covered with soft coral and gorgonian sea fans offering spectacular scenery at night thanks to the light reflection in the eyes of hundreds of crustaceans crawling around.
