Phi Phi and Bamboo Islands Full-Day Tour by Speedboat

The Phi Phi Islands are about as idyllic as it gets. With pristine, palm-fringed beaches and turquoise waters, it’s no surprise this was the choice destination for the Dicaprio blockbuster. This full day island-hopping trip will first take you to the sparkling sands of Bamboo Island. A private crescent-shaped bay where you can relax on the beach or snorkel beautifully clear waters. Departing for Hin Klang, you’ll be mesmerized by the colorful marine life and coral reef resting just feet below the surface, before heading to Phi Phi Don for a beachside restaurant lunch. A sightseeing cruise will take you past the islands’ fascinating rock formations to where it’s feeding time at Monkey Beach. The most fascinating part of the trip comes in the form of Phi Phi Lay. Here you’ll find the Viking Cave, home to a thriving bird’s nest soup industry and of course, Maya Bay, where you can explore the spectacular setting of ‘The Beach’.

Phi Phi consists of six small islands 46km south of Phuket. Fine sandy beaches give way to soaring limestone cliffs to form spectacular scenery. Add crystal clear water, a refreshing lack of roads, plus a laid-back lifestyle, and it’s easy to see why Phi Phi is one of southern Thailand’s most popular destinations.

The smaller, uninhabited island of Phi Phi Leh is a big tourist attraction. Surrounded by sheer limestone walls dotted with caves and passages the island’s shallow blue-green lagoons and coral gardens are a snorkeler’s paradise. The island also has two magnificent beaches, Loh Samah and Maya Bay – used as a location for the Hollywood film The Beach.

Duration: 8 hours

Stop At: Pileh Bay, Ko Phi Phi Lee Thailand

Pileh Lagoon is a small inlet on the second biggest of the Phi Phi Island archipelago, and actually is separated from Maya Bay (The Beach) by a sheer limestone cliff face. The water inside this beautiful lagoon is of the most crystal clear azure waters you may have ever seen.

It’s very shallow and so warm it’s like swimming in the bath tub, there is no coral or anything to snag on, and the bottom is made up of white fine sand that just slips between your toes. Very close to Viking Cave (another great tour to take) Pileh Lagoon Phi Phi Island is a wonderful place to relax.

Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: Ao Ton Sai, Ko Phi Phi Don 81000 Thailand

Tonsai Bay is a hive of activity from morning to mid afternoon. When the last ferry boat leaves, calm descends on the place and it returns to its sleepy village feel. With ATMs, a 7-Eleven and a host of cheap and cheerful Thai restaurants and food stands it's got just about everything you need in its compact area.

Duration: 1 hour

Pass By: Maya Bay, Ko Phi Phi Lee Thailand

Maya Bay is a stunningly beautiful bay that's sheltered by 100-metre high cliffs on three sides. Inside the bay there are several beaches, most are small and some only exist at low tide. The main one is around 200 metres long with silky soft white sand, underwater colourful coral and exotic fish in exceptionally clear water; the whole bay is one big reef. Maya Bay has become the main tourist attraction of Phi Phi since The Beach was filmed here in 1999. It was always very popular before the film but now people around the world who haven't even heard of Phi Phi have certainly heard of Maya Bay.

Stop At: Bamboo Island, Ao Nang, Krabi Town 81000 Thailand

Bamboo Island, known as Koh Pai in Thai, is the most north-easterly island of Phi Phi Archipelago in the southern Thai province of Krabi. Lying approximately five kilometres off the northern tip of Koh Phi Phi Don, Bamboo Island is a stunning tropical hotspot that offers the perfect getaway from the crowds as, despite the fact a few tours from Phuket make a stop here after lunch, the island is most of the time never too crowded. Measuring roughly 600m wide by 700m long, the island is almost shaped like a heart and is entirely surrounded by a strip of white sand. Its central part is covered with lush vegetation including Casuarinas trees and the Bamboo trees that gave its name to the island. On the north-eastern side of the island, under the shade of the trees, a small bar serves drinks and snacks. The perfect spot for a day trip, Bamboo Island hosts great snorkelling opportunities. Between Phi Phi Don and Bamboo islands stands a notable coral reef known as Hin Klang which provides its masked and finned visitors with the feeling of swimming in an aquarium. Closer to the beach, the island is almost entirely surrounded by a reef that spreads up to 500m from the shore.
