Train Market Floating Market and River Kwai - Day Trip
Discover the unique Mae Klong train market by walking on the tracks and the colorful Damnoen Saduak floating market by longtail boat. Drive to the River Kwai to enjoy a Thai lunch before exploring the Allied war cemetery, the WWII museum and the Bridge over the River Kwai. After the tour ends return to the meeting point or hotel.
Brief itinerary:
• 7.00 AM depart from the meeting point / hotel and drive towards Kanchanaburi, a small town 123 kilometres from Bangkok.
• 8.30 AM arrive at the train market and walk on the tracks to explore
• 10.00 AM board a long tail boat to get the real experience at the Damnoen Saduak floating market.
• 11.30 AM continue to Kanchanaburi where the River Kwai is located.
• Thai lunch
• 2.00 PM visit the WWII museum, the allied war cemetery, the bridge over the river Kwai
• 5.00 PM approximately back at the hotel / meeting point
Train market
Started in 1984 as a local market the Mae Klong train market, or Talat Rom Hoop as it is known among locals, sells seafood, poultry, spices, vegetables and more. The vendors pull their tables to the sides to let the train pass and then returns to business as usual.
Damnoen saduak floating market
The Damnoen Saduak floating market is a colorful canal market where boats are filled with fresh, tropical fruits and vegetables that come straight from the farmlands on a daily basis.
Kanchanaburi, The River Kwai
The River Kwai flows through Kanchanaburi and relates to the death railway, built by Japanese captivated prisoners of war during the second world war. After conquering in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia the Japanese brought in 140 000 Prisoners of War and over 200 000 forced laborers to complete a 415 km railroad. Many prisoners died building this railroad before the end of the war.

The Bridge over the river kwai
the Bridge over the River Kwai is part of the death railway, built by prisoners of war in WWII, and famous from the 1957 movie Bridge on the River Kwai.
Allied war cemetery
The Allied War Cemetery serves as a memorial to 6982 allied prisoners of war (POWs). These prisoners lost their lives while constructing the death railway and their remains were moved post-war to what is now the allied war cemetery.
