12 Day Uganda and Rwanda Experience

Experience Uganda and Rwanda in 12 Days! This Uganda-Rwanda safari will take you to the wilderness Mabamba Swamp, Lake Kivu, Kibale Forest, Bwindi Impenetrable, Volcanoes and Queen Elizabeth National Parks. Enjoy the jungle to experience the gorillas, chimpanzees, wildlife, birds in Uganda and Rwanda.

Itinerary

Day 1: Mabamba Swamp Visit

Stop At: Mabamba Swamp Bird Watching, Kasanje, Mabamba, Uganda
Morning drive to Mabamba swamp for the Shoebill Stork and other water birds. Look out for many different birds on our way to the swamp, like the Papyrus Gonolek, White Winged Warbler and Weyns Weaver. This Swamp is one of the best places to spot the exceptional Shoebill Stork. But we should not under look other species found here, like the Allen’s and Purple Gallinule, Grey, Purple, Rufous Bellied and Goliath herons, African and Lesser Jacanas, Squaco Herons, the Globally threatened Pallid Harrier and Blue Swallow the migrant species, a variety of egrets, ducks etc. The best way to enjoy the rich bird life is by canoe and you might even have the luck to encounter the elusive Sitatunga Antelope, adapted to swampy habitats.

Day 2: Transfer to Kibale National Park

Stop At: Kibale National Park, Kasese Uganda
After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to Kibale National Park. The journey is interesting as you get to get breathtaking views of Uganda’s beauty full of natural wonders. Reach in the evening and check in to your lodge.

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking at Kibale Forest National Park

Stop At: Kibale National Park, Kasese Uganda
Wake up early in the morning and have a cup of tea before being briefed by well-trained guides. After a short brief, you will go for an adventurous chimpanzee trekking in the Forest of Kibale National Park. While trekking the apes, you may encounter other primates like the Colobus monkeys, baboons, and others.

Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Stop At: Queen Elizabeth National Park, 410 kilometers from Kampala, Kasese Uganda
In the morning after a breakfast, you will be transferred to Queen Elizabeth National park. This park is well known for harboring different wild animals and a game drive through it is a life-changing experience.

Day 5: Game drive and launch cruise in Queen Elizabeth national park

Stop At: Queen Elizabeth National Park, 410 kilometers from Kampala, Kasese Uganda
After a morning breakfast, you will go for a morning game drive and on this drive, you will have a chance to view different wild animals like; – lions, buffaloes, elephants, Ugandan Kobs and many more.

Return later in the afternoon for lunch at the lodge and rest before going for an evening launch cruise on the Kazinga channel.

Day 6: The tree climbing lions in Ishasha and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Stop At: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Buhoma Kanungu and Kisoro, Kabale Uganda
You will set off with a packed lunch and drive to Bwindi through the Ishasha area of the Park looking for the tree climbing lions which can only be seen in this part of Uganda. Fortunately the terrain is open savannah scattered with acacia and fig trees. You will enjoy your picnic lunch and later continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Day 7: Mountain gorilla Trekking

Stop At: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Buhoma Kanungu and Kisoro, Kabale Uganda
Right After breakfast in the early morning you will head to the park headquarters where you will be briefed before going gorilla tracking. The rainforest is thick and it’s crisscrossed by several animal trails. The joy of finally meeting the gorillas and even spending an hour with them will certainly be very memorable an experience. Generally Gorillas are huge peaceful yet shy animals however you will have a chance to take photographs and observe them play, feed and care for their young.

Day 8: Transfer to Volcanoes national park

Stop At: Volcanoes National Park, Musanze Kinigi, Ruhengeri Rwanda
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. This journey is quite long and therefore you will reach in the evening. Check in your lodge at the park for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Stop At: Volcanoes National Park, Musanze Kinigi, Ruhengeri Rwanda
After your breakfast, you will go for gorilla trekking in volcanoes national park. Have a thrilling experience in the forest with the gorillas and take some photos with them. After your great experience of mountain gorillas you will return back to the lodge.

Day 10: Golden monkey tracking

Stop At: Volcanoes National Park, Musanze Kinigi, Ruhengeri Rwanda
After breakfast, you will go for a thrilling experience of golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes National park. This is a lifetime experience as you get to meet these hard to find primates. Return to the lodge and relax while having a breathtaking view of the surrounding hills.

Day 11: Transfer to Lake Kivu

Stop At: Lake Kivu, Kibuye Rwanda
After breakfast, you will have a scenic transfer to Lake Kivu. You will have lunch at the lodge before going for an evening boat ride on Lake Kivu.

Day 12: Transfer to Kigali and Departure

Stop At: Kigali Genocide Memorial, KG 14 Ave, Kigali Rwanda
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Kigali. You will be driven to the airport and you will depart back to your home country. This will be the end of our 12 days Uganda and Rwanda safari.
