Eco friendly comprehensive Yosemite introduction - 4 hours in Yosemite Valley. Leave San Francisco at 7:00 am from Transbay Terminal, about 15 to 20 minutes walk from San Francisco downtown hotels. This self-guided trip is ideal if you are independent and like the freedom. We provide valley shuttle and sightseeing map. Relaxed travel on comfortable train through Delta area to Merced and then full size bus to Yosemite Valley. Train has restrooms, cafe car, and electric outlets. You see Merced River, Bridalveil Fall, El Capitan, Sentinel Rock, and Yosemite Falls. Past Chapel crossing the Sentinel Bridge you see iconic Half Dome. At Visitor Center see Ansel Adams Gallery, Yosemite Theater and American Native Village of The Ahwahneeche. Shuttle service takes you east towards to Happy Isles and Mirror Lake or west towards to Valley Lodge. No strenuous walking but plenty of time to hike. Take a short walk or free valley shuttle to explore.

What you will see on this trip: Coming on Highway 140 through El Portal past Arch Rock Entrance you see the cliffs on both sides of the Merced River Canyon. Crossing the river going on South Side Road Bridal Veil Fall and Leaning Tower are visible. Looming across the Valley is the huge El Capitan monolith. Driving further you see Cathedral Rocks, Sentinel Rock, Half Dome and Clouds Rest. Yosemite Falls is seen on the left and past Yosemite Chapel crossing the Sentinel Bridge you see the iconic Half Dome. Entering the Village the bus makes a short stop at the Visitor Center to see Ansel Adams Gallery, Yosemite Theater, American Indian village of The Ahwahnee and Yosemite Falls.

It is easy to spend five hours visiting all the Valley highlights. No strenuous hiking. You can take a short walk for about thirty minutes from Visitor Center area to Yosemite Falls and Yosemite Valley Lodge. If you wish to get more detailed interpretive tour you can take a 2 hour tour conducted by a National Park approved guide or ranger on an open air tram during the summer at 2:00 p.m.

On the way back on North Side Drive you are below Three Brothers and El Capitan. Visible at the bend in Merced river are Cathedral Rocks and a view of the Valley in the back. Soon you see where the glacier stopped and the valley got filled in, past that the rocks and down the river. You leave Yosemite Valley at Arch Rock coming to El Portal on the way to Merced. If you only have one day this is the most you can do. Ideally you should spend the night in El Portal or inside Yosemite Valley to give you fuller experience.
