Mérida 3 Days 2 nights Package

Perfect introduction for those who visit Mérida for the first time. On the first day, enjoy a half day city tour where you have the occasion to discover Merida’s landmarks, to get a bite of the historical aspects of the city at the same time you get to know traditional craftwork and local products.

Next day get ready to discover the Venezuelan Páramos in a full day dedicated to explore the picturesque Andean villages where you can visit colonial houses and churches, buy handicrafts, and taste local food and beverage.

1st Day

Pickup from El Vigía Juan Pablo Pérez Alfonzo Airport for transfer to Mérida.

The tour starts with a visit to Mercado Principal of Mérida, a multi floor building where dozens of little shops offer merchandise such as fruits, vegetables, medical herbs, crafts, local products and much more.

Later, you will have a stop at the Heladeria Coromoto, an ice cream parlor widely known for getting an entry in the Guinness book for setting a record of 860 flavors. There you will have a wide range of ice cream flavors selection that goes from salmon to garlic or spaghetti. Please note that around 60 different flavors are display daily. For sure this bunch of options will satisfy everyone’s taste.

Next the tour heads into at the Plaza Bolivar where you will have the opportunity to see the Libertador Simon Bolivar’s statue, to admire the Basilica de La Inmaculada Concepcion, one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Venezuela.

Afterwards, a brief visit to the Governor’s Palace and Universidad de Los Andes Rectorate Building.

You will end the tour by having a historical insight of the city by having a stop at Casa de los Gobernadores, place where the Spanish governors of the Colonial period once ruled the province of Mérida. The colonial house serves as art gallery to exhibit painting of the governors as well as some other personalities well known for their public and academic relevance.Return to the Posada. Overnight stay.

2nd Day

After breakfast, get ready to get mesmerized by the charming Andean paramo. You will be taken all the way up to the Carretera Transandina. This beautiful road will lead you along colonial towns where mountain farmers traditionally till the fields with their oxen cart. You will have a stop at the famous stone church of the artist Juan Félix Sánchez in San Rafael de Mucuchíes. On the highest point of the Carretera Transandina, you will visit the Laguna de Mucubají, a beautiful lagoon fed by the glacier. The landscape at an altitude of 3000 m, along the hike from Laguna Mucubají to Laguna Negra (roundtrip 2-3 hours), offers the visitor a vegetation of frailejones (espiletien) and pinewood, and the stony ground is mostly covered with fern and lichen.

As we drive up to the Eagle Pass, at an altitude of 4200 m, observe the Páramo vegetation with frailejones growing up to 3 m in height and the stunning view over endless mountains. Return to the Posada. Overnight stay.

3rd Day

Transfer to El Vigía Juan Pablo Pérez Alfonzo Airport for flight to Caracas.
