Ho Chi Minh City is also known as Saigon. It was once considered as the Pearl of the Far East and now it is the modern metropolis with more than 8 billion inhabitants. Today the city is the economic center of Vietnam but not too long ago; this is where the heroic resistance against aggressors and the struggling process for independence took place.

Right across the way from Notre Dame Cathedral, Ho Chi Minh City's striking French post office is a period classic, designed by Marie-Alfred Foulhoux (though often credited to Gustave Eiffel) and built between 1886 and 1891.
