New DVD music Discs
Two new advanced types of DVD music discs are available now, and both are based on the DVD format. One is called "Super Audio CD" and the other is "DVD Audio". Both provide the exceptional 6-channel surround music programs for the keenest of ears. Both also provide incredibly high audio sampling rates for sound quality that surpasses even Compact Disks.
These two competing formats are both angling to replace CDs, but Format wars are always long and tedious. Right now, there is but just a handful of DVD Audio and SACD Discs available. However, newer DVD players have the DVD Audio logo on them, and record labels now promise more DVD Audio Discs.

Both Dolby Digital and DTS are capable of dividing a signal into six channels, and directing one channel to each one of six speakers for complete theatrical sound mixing, but not all Dolby Digital DVDs are actually recorded in six-channel (5.1 Surround) sound. |

An important buzz word to lean is sampling rate. Digital recording is achieved by sampling; essentially, taking a digital snapshot of the sound at regular intervals. The higher the sampling rate, the more snaphots are created in a fixed period of time, and the more accurate the recording.
