Consider the following: Martha Stewart is charged with criminal activitiestivities by Justice Department prosecutors and other Justice Department employees, seeking to put her in prison. The basis for inflicting such grave consequences upon her was that she sold stock after non-solicited information or rumors were given to her, suggesting that the pric e for the stock she held would shortly decline, causing her to sell the stock. Further charges arose from statements made by Martha Stewart that she did not do what the government prosecutors charged. Almost anyone owning stock could be expected to sell (or buy) stock, and they do it all the time, when they learn information that that may shortly cause the price the public is willing to pay for the stock to either rise or fall. She is being charged with offenses that could be charged to virtually any owner of stock. Compare her alleged "offenses" with criminal activities by the same New York City Justice Department prosecutors (and prior Justice Department prosecutors) that enabled repeated catastrophic events to occur.
