Hiking tour of Theth in three days

The three-day tour of Theth is a special interest hiking tour program exclusively designed to offer participants the best combination of pristine wild nature, unforgettable 4x4 WD through the heart of the Albanian Alps, local folklore and traditions. During these three days you will be able to visit most of the attractions of Northern Albania, combining a variety of exciting outdoor activities with time to soak up the local culture.

Itinerary

Day 1: Tirana – Shkodra – Theth

Pass By: Choose Balkans, Rruga Reshit Collaku In front of Albtelecom, near vila Shard, Tirana 1000 Albania
Our journey towards the Albanian Alps begins in the morning at 05:30 am in the morning. Our tour guide will come and pick you up at your hotel in Tirana.

Pass By: Shkoder, Shkoder, Shkoder County
As we drive along the way towards Northern Albania, you will be amazed by beautiful landscapes; wild fields, rivers, Shkodra Lake and rugged untouched mountains. From Shkodra we will experience local transport riding at around 7:30 am.

Stop At: Theth, Theth, Shkoder County
As we take the turn from the main road to Theth the area becomes more rural, with fewer cars but more wild nature and amazing landscapes. Due to its favorable position this area is famous for cultivating medicinal herbs, and if you are lucky to travel in May – June you would be amazed by the pretty and aromatic fields of lavender making you feel like you are in Provence (France). On the way to the top we will pass through a steep sneaky hillside reaching up to 1700 meters above sea level at Qafa e Thores. They say this is the spot with the best picture – perfect view of the Albanian Alps. We arrive at our Guesthouse in Theth at around 11:30, some tasty fresh local food will be waiting for us. On all three days of the tours, lunch break will be around noon. After resting a bit, we visit the old Church and the “Lock in” Tower (symbol of Theth) and its fascinating story in centuries.

Day 2: Theth – Blue Eye - Theth

Stop At: Blue Eye of Theth, Kaprre Pusi i Zi, Syri i Kalter, Theth 4009 Albania
Our hiking tour of Theth continues to the natural wonder the so called “Blue Eye of Theth”. The hike lasts 3 to 4 hours one way. The Blue Eye is formed by the erosion of the rocks by the water that descends from melting snow of the Albanian Alps. You will keep your eyes peeled from the iridescent glow of greens and blues colours of this marvel of nature, inviting you to dive in. Last but not least, if you are brave enough, don’t forget to bring your swimming suits with you as some of us will dare to swim in these cold crystal-clear waters.

Day 3: Theth – Grunas Waterfall – Theth – Tirana

Stop At: Grunasi Waterfall, Theth Albania
Waking up with such a magnificent view of the Albanian Alps will make you want to stay longer, however, after breakfast we will hike from Theth to Grunas Waterfall (about 1-hour hike). A curtain of white water comes over the grey rocks as if it were being poured from a bucket that never empties. The water tumbles down the hillside in a series of mini-waterfalls. At around midday we get ready to get back to Tirana.

Stop At: Shkoder, Shkoder, Shkoder County
The elaborated zig-zags road through the mountainous terrain smoothens down little by little taking us towards Shkodra Lake. Our driver will be waiting for us in Shkodra, taking us back to the modern and dynamic metropolitan capital city of Albania, Tirana, where we will arrive in the late afternoon. You will return home full of the wonders of Albania, with a new sense of self-excitement to share with those around you.
