Sisian – Ltsen - Tatev Hiking and Camping Tour

Local knowledgeable guide will take you through the nature and history of the Syunik region. This experience has been developed together with ethnographers and will make sure to provide with rich experience. The guide is also trained to provide first aid.

Itinerary

Day 1: Sisian - Ltsen

Stop At: Aghitu Memorial, Road to Vorotan, Sisian Armenia
The tour will start with a drive to Aghitu village. While in the car, the guide will provide information about the region, geography and demography. At Aghitu memorial, visitors will learn about the main architectural characteristics and symbolism of different ornaments and cross-stones in the region (including khachkars, their types, history, significance and how they have changed over time).
Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Vorotnavank Monastery, Vorotan Armenia
After the memorial, visitors will walk to Aghitu caves, which were excavated during recent years by archaeologists and many interesting artefacts were found dating back to the Late Stone Age, including the 26,000 year old bear bone needle. From the Cave, visitors will hike through Vorotan river canyon. After lunch, visitors will continue hiking to Vorotnavank Monastery, Vorotnaberd Fort and Tangi Bridge where the guest will be picked up and transported to Ltsen where they will camp for the night in tents.

Meals included:
• Lunch: A lunch of traditional local dishes will be provided in a house in Vahgatin village.
• Dinner: A campsite dinner will be provided.
Accommodation included: Camping at Ltsen village campsite.

Day 2: Ltsen - Tatev

Stop At: Tatev Monastery, Tatev Armenia
On day two, after breakfast and a short overview of the hike and the trail, visitors will start a 6-hour hike to Tatev. During the hike, visitors will have several short stops for rest and scenery photos. The guide will present stories about edible plants, berries and fruits and their uses in everyday life, myths and legends about the forest and the region, as well as information about the monuments and villages surrounding the trail.

When visitors arrive in Tatev, the tour will conclude and visitors will be free to visit the monastery or continue to their next destination.
