Stop At: Atherton Tablelands, Cairns, Queensland Australia
Early pick up from your accommodation in or around Cairns.
Journey to the southern Tablelands observing spectacular world heritage listed scenery along the way to our first destination at one of the best crater lakes on the Atherton Tablelands.
Enjoy a freshly made, piping hot devonshire morning tea.
Visit one of the largest and most spectacular strangler figs in the Tableland's rainforests, estimated to be over 500 years old.
From here, travel to your first waterfall. This waterfall forms part of the North Johnstone River and was created by the last flow of lava from the Malanda Shield Volcano. Native platypus are often seen in this permanent source of flowing water.
Your next destination will be the small dairy town of Millaa Millaa with the opportunity to visit four separate waterfalls including one of the most photographed waterfalls in Australia, Millaa Millaa Falls. This classic waterfall is a great place for a quick refreshing swim on a hot day, with an invigorating massage from the cascade of cool flowing mountain water upon tired aching muscles. There are also some intriguing stories about the falls that will most certainly compliment your visit to this picture paradise area.
After your swim, or photo shoot, its time to move onto two other spectacular waterfalls on the waterfall circuit. Both waterfalls provide short walks through the lush rainforest and provide some creative photography opportunities at any time of the year.
Then travel deeper into the Tablelands, driving through lush green rolling dairy pastures to a 295-foot (90m) triple tier cascade, the highest waterfall on the Tablelands. There is a steep walk down to the bottom of the Waterfall but it certainly is worth the climb up and down if you are not up to it we do have other options.
By now, you will almost certainly be ready for lunch at one of the Tableland's best cafes before making your way across the Tablelands agriculture farming land to Ravenshoe.
On the way, be treated to a view from McHughs or (Millaa Millaa lookout) where, on a clear day, there is a spectacular panoramic view from Atherton to the Innisfail Coast.
We now make our way towards Ravenshoe. You will notice the rapidly changing scenery as you approach the gateway to the outback and Queensland's widest single drop waterfall.
We then wind our way back over the Herberton ranges towards a more tropical rainforest landscape and come to your final stop for the day - the spectacular Mount Hypipamee Crater. This is a one of a kind volcanic phenomenon and is the result of a massive, naturally occuring gas explosion leaving a crater over 196-foot (60m) in diameter and twice as deep.
The path continues around to the Dinner Falls where the lowest tier is the most spectacular.
You will then be returned to your place of pickup via the the township of Atherton to Cairns.
